One possibility she raised besides a distraction is that this takes away the possibility of Cohen using it as a bargaining chip with prosecutors to cut a deal with them.

4. No they did not. It was labeled privileged by the special master.

And it still wouldn't be a bargaining chip for Cohen because he wouldn't be able to release it on his own.

He’s been involved with Trump for decades. This isn’t all he has on Trump.

If he wants to save his hide and cut a deal with prosecutors, it has to be something they don't have. I would think that it may be the case since as you say, he was trump's fixer fot a long time.
We will see..

It's a bargaining chip. I'm pretty sure he doesn't much care about his law license at this point so maintaining confidentiality is not a concern. Is he fishing for a pardon? Looking for a sweeter deal from prosecutors? Apparently there are plenty more where that came from.

If I were him I'd go for a deal--I'm sure he knows better than anyone that his former boss can't be trusted.
