To distract from his Rusia/Vladimir Putin horrible week, Donald Trump lashed out Friday night regarding NFL players taking a knee at games when the National Anthem is played. He believes NFL players do not deserve Free Speech rights.
On Thursday, the NFL decided to put the National Anthem policy on hold while it figures out a solution.
Then Trump takes to Twitter and Twitter responds.

(17,862 posts)I don't agree with his solution (holding up a small pole with three flags - USA, BLM, and anti-Trump) during the anthem, but I think the BLM would be advanced by conceding on kneeling with the following agreement between the players and the NFL.
After the anthem players can hold up signs indicating a political statement. Some examples would be "Independent review of all police shootings", "State attorney review for all police shootings", "Immediate full report on shooting required for retention of job"
Players will be able to make a political statement in the after game press conference prior to answering sports related questions.
Owners set up a fund or fund an organization which reviews police actions and methods.
Joint NFL/NFLPA letter to the Justice Department and the states attorneys indicating how police training and conduct should be changed or reviewed.

Donald Trump is so STUPID. He gave the players and the Nation another reason to take a knee.

(30,481 posts)The owners. He has put them in such a tough spot. Without White House interference this would have been the easiest thing for the NFL. Instead, it's political at the highest level.
The NFL should have immediately gotten with the players union after Kap took a knee. They should have instituted a multiple game ban for anyone taking a knee and allocated millions to support the actual reason for the protest. This would be on the NFL and the ownership would have been able to wash their hands of all of it.
Under those circumstances the NFL would have come away looking great and the conversation today would be about social justice activism and involvement.
Everyone would have won if handled in that manner.

(12,409 posts)All the nonsense around supposed disrespect of "tradition" is taking the energy away from the intent of the protest.
Turn the whole thing around by making a bigger display of "patriotism" and tagging it to the BLM movement.
Use the anthem as a way to draw attention to the problem and turn the tide on the lsos.

(10,721 posts)Players should be able to kneel if they want to, period. There exists an epidemic of police brutality, including murder, toward persons of color. And some players choose to make a statement about that by peacefully kneeling on the sidelines before a football game. They have every right to do so. If it offends some racist assholes, then so be it.
