...is a travesty of Christianity and Jesus weeps tears of blood every time that woman opens her mouth as she did in this Washington Post piece about why members of the religious right are willing to forgive Trump for his crotch grabbing and lies in exchange for his embrace of white supremacy .

What does "morality" mean to the Christian Coalition?
Answer: apparently it means owning slaves who will do all the hard work while you laze on the front porch sipping mint juleps and living the easy life.
I hope THIS WOMAN is enjoying her 15 minutes of fame. The things people will say to get their pictures in the newspaper! Not writing her name. It is better not to post the names of serial killers and other moral reprobates--it encourages others to follow their example.

(61,675 posts)They make up all kinds of shit to justify their warped acceptance of a slimy leader. I was particularly digusted by theor ad-ons to scripture, like, "Love they neighbor, but only if he's American." They decided to ignore how Christ was a refugee, an immigrant.

There was Heaven: Most say its gonna be 15,000 miles wide and that high, Jewell said. We dont know whether when it comes down how far it will come, if its gonna come all the way or if there will be stairs. We dont know that. But its gonna be suitable to each person. You know that old song, Lord, build me a cabin in the corner of Gloryland? See, thats not right. Its not gonna be you have a cabin over here and I have one over there. Its gonna be suitable to each person. So, whatever makes me happy. I like birds. So outside my window, there will be birds.
And there was Hell: Each person is gonna be on an islandlike place, and fire all around it. And theyre gonna be in complete darkness, and over time, your eyes will go. And wormsll eat on you. Its a terrible place, the way the Bible describes it.
It was a binary world, not just for Jewell Killough but for everyone sitting inside the sanctuary of First Baptist Church, who prayed all the time about how to navigate it.

(81,065 posts)The bit about heaven is probably the looniest thing I've read since I read Dianetcs in college. It's like they are getting off on their own ideas of how wonderful they are and how much everyone who ever made them feel icky is gonna suffer.

(81,065 posts)Have you ever been out at night and looked at the stars? said Linda. Thats the floor of heaven, and heaven is going to be so much more beautiful than the floor.
Im going to be in my kitchen, Sheila said, imagining heaven would have one. I think its going to be beautiful to see all the appliances.
I hope the appliances have lifetime warranties

Going back even further in time, I think that Capital used science to kill religion in order to make consumerism the religion of the masses. The void that must be filled when humans lose their spirituality makes them easy targets for merchants pushing liquor, drugs, gambling, prostitution, designer clothes, trashy "art" and other overpriced stuff.

(11,949 posts)Slavery was cool with them. Ordained by god.
And I was taught that blacks were cursed by the sins of Ham or some bullshit I dont care to remember.
These motherfuckers would be happy to own slaves again today if the could.
BTW. I am now a freethinker.
And did you notice how old all those cretins are? They will soon be gone. Sure, a good many of their kids drink their hatred flavored coolaid. By many do not. Very few of my younger 2nd cousins(20s and 30s) fall for that shit. For that matter few of my cousins do.

He had wondered at times about the idea that God had chosen Trump, and the opposite, the possibility that God had nothing to do with Trump at all. He wondered about it again now, his Bible bookmarked to the 14th verse of Exodus Chapter 20 for the sermon.
Its a hard thing to reconcile, he said. I think ultimately God allowed him to become president for reasons we dont fully know yet.

I think they are promoting violence, Sheila said, thinking about the 800 weathered, steel monoliths hanging from a roof to evoke the lynchings, one for each American county where the violence was carried out, including Crenshaw County, where a man named Jesse Thornton was lynched in 1940 in downtown Luverne.
