Another empathy-free MAGAT is "ashamed" now.

It was all well & good when it was "those people", but when it impacted her family, well, horrors. Fuck her. I feel sorry for her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.

‘I’m ashamed’: Trump voter admits she got it wrong after ICE deports her daughter-in-law

A woman who voted for President Donald Trump in 2016 this week expressed regret after the president’s government agents deported her daughter-in-law to Mexico.

The Associated Press this week published a lengthy profile of Letty Stegall, an undocumented immigrant who is married an American citizen and Kansas City resident named Steve Stegall, and who has a 17-year-old daughter who is also an American citizen.

In one part of the profile, the AP interviews Steve Stegall’s mother, Shirley Stegall, about whether she regrets voting for Trump in 2016 — and she admits she does.

“I’ve always been proud to be an American,” she said. “But now I’m ashamed.”

4. She said she's ashamed, and she should be.

But it sounds like she's not ready to take responsibility for her actions. She (a trump voter) says she's ashamed to be American.

Her shame should be for herself, because of her vote.

I've just run out, having been using them for people who really deserve them. A regretful tRump voter deserves nothing but contempt and loathing.

cut her out of their lives.

She is a part of the reason their respective wife and mother isn't there anymore.

16. The seventeen year old is not her granddaughter
Mon Jul 23, 2018, 06:29 PM

From the AP article that Raw Story referenced:

For now, she is a stranger in the vaguely familiar land she left as a 21-year-old in 1999, her phone and laptop the only windows to a life that’s no longer hers. When her 17-year-old daughter, Jennifer Tadeo-Uscanga, arrives home from school, Stegall is there on FaceTime to greet her. She watches streaming feeds from 16 cameras at the bar she manages remotely. She gives Steve Stegall, her husband of six years, a goodnight kiss by pressing her lips to her cellphone screen.

<SNIP>

She got married and had Jennifer, but later divorced. Then she fell in love with Steve, who came to see Jennifer as his own. Stegall mastered the language and watched her paychecks grow. She and Steve bought a home, and soon Stegall became the heart of The Blue Line , the bar they ran together. When the Olympics aired, she’d drape herself in red, white and blue, and when the national anthem sounded, she’d nudge her husband to remove his hat as she stood solemnly, goose bumps covering her body.

the woman referenced probably doesn't see her as her granddaughter, though, since Steve sees her as his daughter, you'd think she would.

Your daughter-in-law is an undocumented immigrant and you vote for the guy who promises to deport "illegal aliens"?

Well, maybe if you hate your son. Or your daughter-in-law. But apparently that is not the case here. So I don't know what to say. It's sheer stupidity. You can't vote for someone who promises to do A, and then complain when he does A. I thought that's a very simple concept: elections have consequences. And they are not simply "my team wins, haha, we pwned those libs!".

God damn it. Makes me ashamed to live on the same planet.

I don't get that mentality. Think about where we started on gay rights in the 1970s and 1980s. If people didn't change, we wouldn't have same sex marriage and gay people would still have to hide. I knew a woman who couldn't handle her gay son getting and dying of AIDS in the 80s. But a few years ago she was happy to go to a lesbian grandchild's wedding.

Growth is a good thing.

Plenty of Nazis expressed remorse after the war.

Doesn't excuse them from having been Nazis.

This woman had a Nazi mentality when she voted for Trump.
I'm not going to congratulate her for having suddenly grown a conscience.

I'm glad for the greater good that she did, but she doesn't deserve admiration for it.

It’s based in self and stays true to Republican form.

I do agree with you about growth and change over time. It can even come from something like this situation. Read what she says. This isn’t it.

And I hope the remorse drives this woman to complete the act of contrition, which is to repair as best she can the damage she's done. Change her party registration. Vote for candidates that don't shame the United States with their intolerance and bigotry. Work for a more just and equitable system.

She's taken one step more than millions of people who voted for Trump have taken; she needs to follow through on that first step.

as they poison the nation, and degrade it away from all the things that made America worthy and noble.

The MAGA slogan is - like all that comes from republican misleader Dirty Donny* - an upside down lie. It is the exact opposite of what he intended, and what he and his russian and republican cronies are doing to weaken America. They are attacking our allies, and kissing enemy butt while actively surrendering US prestige, power, respect, and geopolitical reach.

The republican #ShanghaiSurrender & #HelsinkiStinky made the depth of republican malfeasance plain. They are in actuality (as every decent person on the planet can see) MAGA Making America Grotesque Anathema.

19. She didn't regret her vote

I bet she was fine with her vote because she didn't really like the daughter-in-law or granddaughter. But when she realize that how her son misses her, she started to regret. There will be one less helper at the bar, one less mother to cook and clean and one less person to hold at night. This woman deserves all the work she'll be doing to fill in for the daughter-in-law. I have no empathy for her.
