OH-12: Danny O'Connor's county benchmarks for victory (Original Post)

From the dark side, a supposed libertarian also named (Matthew) O'Connor is considering entering the race. At this point that'd be a spoiler candidacy serving the Republican candidate by confusing Democratic voters, of course.
People are already voting.

(58,785 posts)3. Apparently yes. "Second O'Connor could join race
for open US House seat in Ohio's 12 congressional district
If he makes the ballot, it could draw support away from Democrat Danny O'Connor, the Franklin County recorder, in his race against Republican state Sen. Troy Balderson.
Matthew O'Connor doesn't plan to run in an Aug. 7 special election to fill the unexpired term of former U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi, who retired in January. He would seek a full term in November.
Republicans have held the 12th district from nearly 35 years, but Democrats nationally believe they have a chance given Republican President Donald Trump's persistently weak approval ratings.

Does say where his funding would come from.

(58,723 posts)4. I see the story but it's still funky
Ballots are printed and people are voting. Whats the law in Ohio?
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)5. Don't know. But you can bet the Republicans
responsible for holding a house majority know. The battle for power is enormous. Money is not an object on the right.

(58,785 posts)6. Funky all right: LAST WEEK the libertarian party was
recognized by the state for the first time in four years. 20 new libertarian Ohio candidates have until Thursday to get enough signatures for the ballot.
The Libertarian O'Connor didn't return an email seeking comment Monday. But he describes himself on his LinkedIn profile page as an "information security leader, speaker, and evangelist." He states his current job title is "global director, Office of Cyber Security," though - intriguingly - he lists his last two employers only as "confidential."
O'Connor is one of 20 candidates Ohio Libertarians are planning to run this year after regaining state recognition as a minor party last week for the first time in nearly four years. All Libertarian candidates have until Thursday to file petition signatures to run; statewide and congressional candidates need 50 valid signatures apiece, while legislative and county candidates only need five.
The party's main goal is to make sure its gubernatorial candidate, Columbus filmmaker/activist Travis Irvine, gets at least 3 percent of the statewide vote in November. That's the threshold minor parties in Ohio need to reach to remain on the ballot in 2020.

The article lists the other candidates. Grim news. I think we should assume they'll have all the petition pushers money can buy.
