GOP Congressman Calls Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 'This Girl ... Or Whatever She Is'

WASHINGTON ― Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) on Saturday referred to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democratic congressional nominee who is seen as a rising star in her party, as “this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is.”

DeSantis, who is running for governor and has the support of President Donald Trump, made his remarks during a campaign event in Orange Park, Florida.

“You look at this girl Ocasio-Cortez or whatever she is, I mean, she’s in a totally different universe,” he said to laughs. “It’s basically socialism wrapped in ignorance.”

HuffPost obtained a video of DeSantis’ remarks.

3. As a Democratic nominee, I'd think that'd be pretty clear already.

You think she's NOT fighting Republicans, then?

She supports the challenger in each race.
It doesn't seem there is a sitting Democrat that she likes and supports.

Unless you mean RIGHT NOW. If so, perhaps some clarity? Thanks!

It's dismissive and insulting, sure. He's a GOP Congressman. Did you expect something more enlightened?

"Socialism" will be the next Bugbear the Right throws at the elderly and low-info voters to gin up fear-based voting. When no Dem is proposing anything like it.

She has the record, the name and love her ads. Spelling out how the republicans have fucked the state for 20 years and she proudly proclaims herself a democrat. Her main primary opponents(again in my opinion) is a Billionaire from down south. His ad I have seen does not tout him being a democrat nor the damage the republicans have done. Instead he touts a private school he funds for underprivileged kids. Like somehow the answer to a good education is turning over education to billionaires. Can’t see the teachers going for that line of bullshit.

I have nothing inherently against billionaires but this is not the path toward a Democratic Party comeback but something to stroke the ego of a rich liberal.

For the first time since ‘Walkin Lawson’ we have a real chance at the governorship.

Plus it looks like Nelson is holding his own and we have a real shot at the state senate.

My only bitch is out of state progressives trying to primary a sitting house member in one of the toughest congressional districts we hold in the nation. From someone who lives here that is not going to help. All for knock down drag out fight for open or republican held seats.

But things are looking better for Florida Democrats than at anytime in the last 25 years.
