When Senator Al Franken was accused last year of sexual misconduct, his harshest critics were fellow Democratic senators. In a Facebook post, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said of her colleague that “it would be better for our country if he sent a clear message that any kind of mistreatment of women in our society isn’t acceptable by stepping aside to let someone else serve.” A Democratic deluge followed, and Franken reluctantly resigned.

US Representative Jim Jordan doesn’t need to fret over a similar response from Republicans.

For Republicans, sexual assault allegations are only valid when leveled against Democrats. When one of their own is under fire, GOP legislators line up to attack the credibility of accusers. Circumspection is one thing, but when it comes to sexual misconduct allegations, Republicans are echoing the hypocrisy of Trump"

The case-of-the-vapors politicians who called for Franken's resignation used the event to promote themselves. Shameful behavior. But resigning was equally rash.

THINK, PEOPLE, THINK. Don't just play to the TV cameras, the viewers at the other end are counting on you to be strong.

The Dems have for the most part played by the rules. And we know that the repubs never play by the rules. So my question is, do we want the Dems to be like the repubs? Many voters were sucked in by reagan. They voted repub for decades since then. Don't forget that the religious right joined the repubs to end abortions. (They are almost there.) So here we are. Finally the country seems to have turned against the current repubs. Let's hope it holds.

yup.

For Republicans, sexual assault allegations are only valid when leveled against Democrats. When one of their own is under fire, GOP legislators line up to attack the credibility of accusers.

It seems to me that the ruling gopazi's consider it to be a feather in their cap to have been accused of sexual misconduct. The whole party thinks it is above the laws of the land.

Al Franken wasn't up for election this year. I'm so upset that the Senate Democrats didn't even allow Al the chance to defend himself by holding an investigation like he wanted to do. We have lost a clear, strong, articulate voice defending us all because certain Democrats thought it would "send a message."

A seat that was safely in Democratic hands is now up for grabs by cheating, voter suppression, and all their other tricks. If that seat is lost, it will be the fault of the Democrats who rushed to judgement and forced Franken to resign.

That is one rush to judgment that was as productive as lemmings rushing off a cliff.

Franken was railroaded out while a true Republican sleazebag is praised by his district and his colleagues.
Not our Senators' finest moment.
