US Rep Brendan Boyle @RepBrendanBoyle (D-Pa.) 10h10 hours agoDismissing a candidate like @Ocasio2018 because of gender or age is simply wrong. Anyone who does so is certainly not fit to be governor.

(2,857 posts)Have you never had a girls night out after 18? I have. My husband, his friends and our son have a "just the boys" day every so often involving comics, movies and eating out at their favorite place.
Age is not a factor that I know of. Maybe maturity is since when we want to go out and have fun we use different descriptors.

(11,238 posts)Yes, I've had girls' nights out, and called them that too. That's a vernacular usage. As you say, you use different descriptors when you are going out to have fun.
The GOP congressman was in a professional context, however, and he was using the word girl as a put down. I doubt he would call himself a boy, or like being called a boy, in that context.

(2,857 posts)Who doesn't know that people called black men boys in a derogatory way? That is not what this was though, was it?
If you read my first subject line you see I said he should have said lady or woman. That means little to me though since I called all the girls my daughter was friends with ladies since they were little.

(11,238 posts)And that's very cute, that you call your daughter's friends ladies. That's not uncommon. It makes them feel so grown up, doesn't it? But I think when they actually do grow up, and are in professional situations, they will prefer to be called women by their colleagues & other professional associates.
Nice talking with you. I've made my point and I'm done.
