Differences of opinion will occur, yes! But we need to embrace this resounding message to bring down those ReThugs!

(32,640 posts)They are the divisive ones that lambast any Democrat who dares to depart one word from a manifesto as "not worth your vote."
They scare me.

(13,305 posts)Shouldn't it be "liberals" and "centrists"? Why is there is belief that refuses to die that all unaffiliated voters are moderates or centrists?
I know just as many unaffiliated liberals as I do centrists or conservatives. And every single person I know who actually refers to themselves an "independent" isn't. Most of them are Republicans or glibertarians that lean Republican who just like to envision themselves as being above it all.

(49,001 posts)Centrists are a good field to mine, but liberals are already aligned with Democratic policies and representatives.

(13,305 posts)....but that's still "liberals" and "centrists" and not "liberals" and "independents".
"independent" means not affiliated with either party. But for some reason it's been determined to be gospel truth that "independent" means centrist and moderate, and that these people are just ripe for the picking. All data shows that's not true and that most people who say they are independents are already decided either way and almost always vote one or the other party.
I don't disagree with the initial message and that is that in some cases liberals might have to vote for a more centrist Democratic candidate and that centrists might have to vote for a more liberal candidate. My issue is with the use of "independents" as short hand for centrists and moderates.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results...

(9,865 posts).....very motivated to do so.
Times have changed since 2016.
The problem is the Independents--whose approval for Trump is 36%. The same as it's always been.
His approval is at 9% among Dems (so they ain't gonna sit at home) and.......88% among Repugs, since his Russian trip. It has soared.

(28,254 posts)In all my considerable years, I have yet to encounter a political candidate that satisfies me completely. Everybody lay off the purity tests and concentrate on saving this country from the death spiral that it currently is in.

(5,801 posts)I'm not getting over it. I'm going to do my best to make sure the same mistake doesn't happen again.
I don't need the perfect Democrat. But I sure as hell will voice my opinion about having an actual Democrat on the ticket in 2020.

(15 posts)I'm confused. I'm liberal and not registered as a democrat, but vote as one because I don't want to be targeted for voting specific ways. I'm on board. This seems to be a divisive meme. Most liberals are democrats. Or am I just uninformed?
Lots of divisive sh*t going on this board the last few days. It's really bizarre.

(10,168 posts)was running their scam. So I have a question to those who are trying to to split us up this way...again. Since when is "liberal" and "democrat" not synonymous?
I'm almost 70 and have voted since the 60's and in my entire lifetime those words were always synonyms. Has that changed? And who changed it? Back in the 60's it was the Nixon "rat f*ckers" who did that kind of dirty work. who is it now?

(15,643 posts)wouldn't be so ridiculous. Making this case this far before a nominee is in place for 2020 is ridiculous.
Stop attacking members of our party or telling them to settle for less when it is currently totally irrelevant.
