You know, theoretically, the Traitors are just teeing it right up for the Democrats, message-wise

To me, it's hard to imagine a simpler message that resonates stronger with people across the board than one emphasizing the fundamentals of democracy and government that belongs to the people themselves. Traitor Trump believes our government belongs to him and treats it as such, using its machinery to protect himself, not our country. I.e., he is attempting to establish a dictatorship and to destroy the very foundations of our democracy itself. There are countless examples of him doing and saying things that could be raised in a hypothetical stump-speech.

The "upside" of having such terrible ideas (or lack thereof- these people don't have any actual principles or beliefs) in power is the ease of fomenting opposition using a positive message that people can quite easily get behind- messages that they are already familiar with and have positive associations with, having already been introduced to them in their history classes. The Democrats could literally just open up a history book and use the powerful words and brilliant ideas of the Enlightenment, cultivated by the founders and greatest leaders of our country, to campaign and inspire voters to get our there and do their duty for their country. A Democratic candidate literally could regularly be quoting Abraham Lincoln, the Federalist Papers, and Thomas Hobbes as an effective, very much on-point speech. Basically, put a civics class into a stump speech, and talk about things like:

Humans' natural right to govern themselves, and a government's power being based on the consent of the people

Our mandate that "a government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”

The Republican's long-time strategy of destroying our social contract

Objectivity, the existence of real truth, and the Scientific Method's role in creating the technological society and quality of life we have today

The nature of civil service, the duty to serve our country taken on by federal employees, and the nature of the oath taken by some to support and defend the Constitution

A corrupted, retaliatory government, freedom of the press and political speech, and the protections of the 1st Amendment; the nature of freedom itself

The relevant ideas go on and on. Traitor Trump is going out of his way to tear down every single one of the ideas of the Enlightenment, those democratic ideals that our country was founded on. The Democrats should be passionately representing and teaching those ideas in a way that people can put their hearts into and go out and vote for.

Let's posit a democratic party sweep of the House in November...

1) Trump's tax cuts are not fully impacting the treasury or the economy ... yet. In another 6 months, their impact will be 100% obvious to all, and the middle class rape will be apparent...BUT, who will be in charge when it happens? Democrats? If not in charge, I guarantee the word out of the White House and State Media will be laying blame solely on the Democratic Party as obstructionists or witch hunters or both and THAT will be the narrative for a long time...maybe even the entirety of the run-up to 2020...

2) Trump's disastrous trade war is going to be REALLY starting to hurt small businesses and ancilliary supply lines and service industries by the end of the year - it already IS hurting thousands now, but millions will pay for Trump's bluster in the end...and once again who is going to be getting blamed for it? It won't be a moment of self-reflection and course correction from the White House, I bet my life on that...

3) We are likely looking at a shooting war with Iran if the Mueller probe recommends indictment of Trump - which would only come following impeachment by the House...and THAT will be played as a partisan event regardless of anything else going on...

In short, IF we win back only the House and get bogged down in constant fights with the White House and Senate, the 3 major events - an almost certain recession, a damaged export market and a hyper-partisan impeachment - will be the campaign material for Republicans come 2020...to a person predisposed to believe GOP nonsense in the first place, that is a toxic brew for Democratic messaging to overcome...

the the 3 major events you speak of - an almost certain recession, a damaged export market and a hyper-partisan impeachment - are predictive now and that we are warning people that this is what is going to happen given what Trump and the Repugs have done over the past 2 years. Blame them now - so it will be apparent that when the Dems take over the House and maybe the Senate - the Repugs will not be able to blame the Dems then.

We might have to do everything possible to reverse recession and a damaged export market - but we can't let the Repugs do even more damage should they win in 2018 and continue with their power base.

What gets me is that the Repugs always have an out. They always put themselves in a win-win position. If what you are saying - if the Repugs lose - they blame the Dems for the problems Trump and the Repugs created. If they win - they'll still blame the Dems for not cooperating and obstructing.

We need to start getting out ahead of them and using their tactics against them. If the shoe were on the other foot the Repugs right now would be setting the stage for their fail and blame it on anybody but them

We can see this already being set up. Look at Trump's comments about the Fed the other day. If the economy goes - he has them to blame.

If the Dems win in 2018 - he's already setting it up that the Russians are going to be helping the Dems in 2018.

We need to fight fire with fire and give them a taste of their own medicine.

On edit: They're already hedging their bets on the damage Trump's tariffs will and are doing. They're buying the farmers vote with taxpayer sponsored 'welfare' for the farmers.
