https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/07/25/a-swedish-student-stopped-an-afghan-mans-deportation-by-refusing-to-sit-down-on-a-plane/?utm_term=.7a4143d18bb5When Elin Ersson learned that an Afghan man was scheduled to be deported from Sweden on Monday, she bought a ticket for the same flight. Once she boarded the plane at Gothenburg airport, Ersson refused to take her seat, standing in the aisle, until the 52-year-old deportee was released.
Her dramatic act of civil disobedience, which she live-streamed on Facebook in English, forced the flight to be delayed by two hours, according to Swedavia, the company that operates the airport. Ultimately, her efforts succeeded at least for the time being. The Afghan deportee was escorted off the plane before it took off.

Im trying to change my countrys rules, she responds. Its not right to send people to hell.
But youre preventing all these customers from going to their destination, the man says.

Which destination is that? Why don't people understand that the human race is one race? If we send one man (or family or child) to hell, we all go to hell.

(16,073 posts)1. Civil disobedience works in a civil society
unfortunately, ours isn't any more. Here she'd have been arrested (probably violently).

and a trumper passenger would have probably started the violence. Bravo. This is the meaning of RESIST!!!! Right americans Have not seen it here except by women, The nationwide, Women's March, and high school students. Lately in front of the WH, but that seems to have petered out. I feel this was a spontaneous protest. Bravo to this fighter.

(16,073 posts)4. Yes, it was amazing to see and that it worked in this case
I see around here, even in my deep red town Democrats may not be in the streets, but every one of them we talk to are just gritting their teeth and looking to the election.
