WATCH: Mom attacked over shopping cart in WI Walmart parking lot
Wednesday, July 25th 2018, 12:15 am CDT

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI (WISN/CNN) – A Wisconsin man faces several charges after he allegedly attacked a mother in front of her children when she asked him to move his shopping cart.

A mother of two, Cori Richardson was left bruised and without a clump of hair following the Friday attack outside a New Berlin, WI, Walmart.

Surveillance video shows Richardson leave the store with her baby boy and 9-year-old daughter. As the family headed to their car, another shopper put his empty cart behind it.

"I yelled to him, ‘Can you please put your cart away?' And he said 'No, there's people that they pay to do that.' So I was like, 'Well, just don't leave it behind my car, please.' And he literally just came charging right at me – full force," Richardson said.

There's so much rage going around; this nutbag attacks a woman because she asked him not to leave his cart behind a car - makes you kind of wonder whether you should ever confront anybody about anything, even politely.

a confrontation, it sounds like. Makes me not care to go out in public much, especially in places where I don't know anyone, or go alone.

11. I have a handicap tag on my car. We used to be allowed to park in any metered spot on campus

with a tag, so I would park in one near the building where I worked, since I got to campus at 7:00 a.m., so a good spot was available. One morning as I got out of my car, a middle-aged man approached me in a rage because, he insisted, I had no right to park there. At first I tried to explain the parking rule that allowed it, but he kept yelling and crowding me, refusing to listen.

I am 68 next month. I was probably about 64 or 63 when this happened. I use a cane, I am just 5'3" and I am overweight. I'm sure I looked like an easy victim for venting his inchoate rage on.

Fortunately, the cane I was using that day was my wooden one, much heavier than my hollow aluminum ones, which is why I don't usually use that one any more. But that day I was glad of its weight when I slapped his leg with it and then threatened to slam him in the head if he didn't get away immediately. I kept brandishing it until he was far enough away for me to safely get inside the building. I called the police immediately, because I worried he might damage my car, but he was gone by the time they arrived and they never found him.

It was early enough that no one else was around during the incident, so I had no help--just my cane.

But I think there are some men who look for women they think they can subject to aggression without worrying about being attacked in response. They seek women alone, especially if they are burdened with heavy packages (I had a heavy bag of books and papers, plus my purse) or with small children.

Maybe they want to attack anyone but are too cowardly to do so unless their mark seems especially vulnerable, and women fit the bill. Or perhaps it is raging misogyny, and they want to attack women specifically because they are women.

If I hadn't had a cane, I would have hit him in the head with my bag of books and papers, and I would have kicked him hard on the way down. Yes, I am handicapped, but in a real pinch and under the influence of adrenalin I can ignore the pain and move if I must, though I would suffer terrible pain and be immovable afterward.

Watching that video just brought that whole incident flooding back.

already hit the witness once while attempting to back out, and that plus his vicious assault on the mother and deliberate pushing of the cart with the baby even further into the parking lot showed how willing he was to do serious, even lethal, harm without provocation.

But why was he only charged with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment? It seems a number of much more serious charges are in order. Maybe they need to complete the investigation before adding more charges. He is a menace. I hope he goes away for a long time.

6. You can tell a good person from a bad person by how they leave their cart.

It's pretty much universal.

That this guy tried to justify leaving his cart there is hilarious.

And I can see him being triggered by her catching him in a "gotcha."

Had Engebos pulled that stunt with a police officer, he'd be facing an attempted murder charge.

This kind of stuff...fuck me... I know for sure that if I had witnessed this, I'd be in jail or the hospital. I'm no tough guy, but I'd go in to try to protect her. This kind of shit makes me tear up with rage.
