Is recessed until... January 2019. 6 months on, 6 months off and they get paid around $80k per year for that.

And then we wonder why barely anything ever gets done.

we can't afford to have them hanging around full time, they need to get stuff done and then go home. In my state, they do enough damage in three months to require a decade of remediation.

It sounds like less is not only more but too much. I'm sorry you live somewhere like that. I complain but I know I'm lucky to live in a fairly consistent blue state.

I'm just more annoyed with NY's than usual this year since they were literally this || close to passing a bill allowing adoptees to get their original birth certificates as an equal rights issue when they recessed so it won't be until next year and that's IF they put through the one bill they had that Cuomo will actually sign and not just some 'jump through major hoops and hope' type like they tried to put through earlier this year. It's not a huge issue for most I know but it is for adoptee rights advocates.

I spent many of my younger years in the far NE, along the coast... and I plan to die, right here, in the northern Rockies above 5K ft.. I'll weather most of the crap as long as they haven't started mining the whole mountain range before I croak. The politics are kind of screwy, as they are everywhere, but the landscape makes up for much of that. My intention is to preserve the wild lands and wildlife as long as I can. As of late, there's a new threat beyond the extractive industries like mining, ranching and timber harvest... tourism is taking its toll and has gotten completely out of hand as evidenced by the bison calf in the SUV or idiots strolling through Grand Prismatic Spring, that kind of sh*t happens thousands of times a day and will help hasten the ecological crash that is becoming more inevitable.

Ugh, more coffee!

It's a constant battle to fight against those who think of the wilderness as a community playground they can do what they want to in instead of a home to millions of animals and plants that to be protected and honoured. I simply don't understand that mentality. I am now even more thankful however that the Adirondacks are state and not federal land and are heavily protected.

They have been doing it so long, it even has a name... it's called the August recess

It's supposed to be a time that reps go home to meet with their constituents

The custom probably made some sense earlier, but since the invention of air-conditioning, not so much.

It might be a good time to visit my Rep's office, but I don't have anything to say, other than "keep up the good work".

She's in a rock-solid Dem district, and not being challenged in the primary, from the right or the left. I'm not even sure if there's a Republican challenger.
