as "Turban Man". Good Lord. NJ 101.5 radio hosts Dennis Molloy and Judi Franco made the comments and then debated whether it was an offensive reference or not-and of course concluded it wasn't really offensive. What rock did these two crawl out from under? But hey, that's Trump's America, where every creature of the slime feels comfortable to come out and slither around. You can listen at this link:
https://soundcloud.com/nj-com/1015-ag-comments . I'm flabbergasted. This radio station is a home for third rate right wing talk show hosts like these two clowns but this is a new low. The kind of stuff you usually need to tune a short wave radio to some nazi militia member's station to hear. These two need to be fired. At least our governor came out swinging:
Gov. Phil Murphy accused a pair of New Jersey radio hosts of spreading hate speech and issued sharp condemnation of their remarks Wednesday after the two repeatedly referred to New Jersey's Sikh attorney general as "turban man."
The governor accused the hosts of 101.5 FM's "The Dennis & Judi Show" of "making "abhorrent and xenophobic" remarks toward Gurbir Grewal.
Grewal, the nation's first Sikh attorney general, was referred to as "turban man" and "the guy with the turban" as the hosts discussed his recent move to tell municipal prosecutors not to pursue charges for marijuana arrests.
Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco made the comments after Malloy said he had trouble recalling the attorney general's name.
"I'm never gonna know his name. I'm just gonna say the guy with the turban," Malloy said. "Listen, and if that offends you then don't wear the turban and maybe I'll remember your name."

Sikhs were the line of defense against Islamic expansion to India.
They love everyone... but you don't want to make them your enemy.

- ProPublica: *In New York, Intolerance Has Become Routine, Says Human Rights Commission* By Rahima Nasa, ProPublica, 'Documenting Hate,' July 16, 2018.
A Human Rights Commission report says almost 40 percent of Muslim, Jewish and Sikh residents of the city surveyed had experienced some kind of harassment. It is just a snapshot, but it makes for a plenty ugly picture all the same: The New York City Commission on Human Rights surveyed more than 3,000 Muslim, Jewish and Sikh residents of the city late in 2017 and found striking rates of racially and or religiously motivated assault, harassment and workplace discrimination. Some 38 percent of those surveyed said they had been verbally harassed or taunted because of their race or faith. Nearly 10 percent said they had been the victim of an actual physical assault. A similar percentage of those surveyed said they had seen their property vandalized or otherwise defaced. Lurking in those broad numbers are some more specific outrages: 18 percent of Sikhs surveyed said they had been denied service by a local business; roughly 6 percent of those surveyed who said they wore religious garments reported having had someone try and tear those garments off them. -SIKHS IN AMERICA: A HISTORY OF HATE- Demonized as immigrants. Mistaken for Muslims. For more than a century, Sikhs in the U.S. have faced suspicion and violence, by A.C. Thompson, ProPublica, August 4, 2017
The 1907 episode in a seaside timber town in Washington came to be known as the Bellingham Riots. Really, though, there were no riots. There was a pogrom. At the time, the U.S. was suffering through deep economic distress, a panic-filled recession that had begun the year before. Angry anti-immigrant sentiment was ascendant. And hundreds of Sikh men who had traveled from India to Bellingham to toil in the lumber mills paid the price. Some 500 white men, many of them members of the local Asiatic Exclusion League, descended on the Sikhs and other South Asians, routing them from the bunkhouses where they roomed and chasing them into the streets. Within hours, the entire Sikh population of Bellingham had fled, frantically piling onto trains and boats in search of some sort of refuge. Many had been physically battered.
I knew nothing about this incident until I visited Washington state this spring and met with members of the Sikh community there. For them, it was easy to draw at least some parallels between that century-old ugliness and recent events. Immigrants were again being demonized. Lost jobs were fueling white working-class despair and resentment. Hate crimes were reported to be up. Yelling, Get out of my country! a gunman had shot two Indian software engineers in an Applebees restaurant in Kansas. Closer to home, in Kent, a suburb of Seattle, a man had shot a Sikh in an apparent hate crime. More., https://www.propublica.org/article/sikhs-in-america-hate-crime-victims-and-bias

(2,419 posts)have been suspended indefinitely by NJ 101.5. Maybe because of calls to boycott their advertisers, maybe because it was the right thing to do, I guess it doesn't matter. These two cretins should never have the opportunity to be on the public airwaves again. This wasn't "shock jock" stuff, this was out and out bigotry.
NJ 101.5 suspends hosts Dennis & Judi for calling N.J. attorney general 'turban man'
The hosts of the "Dennis & Judi Show" on NJ 101.5 radio have been suspended indefinitely after they repeatedly referred to New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, who is a Sikh, as "turban man" on air on Wednesday.
The radio station announced Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco, both longtime hosts on the talk radio station, were taken off the air from their 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"We are aware of the offensive comments made by Dennis and Judi during Wednesday's broadcast," Ewing-based radio station WKXW said in a statement issued after midnight Thursday. "We have taken immediate action and have taken them off the air until further notice. We are investigating the matter and will have further comment shortly."

(15,192 posts)but THE NEXT MASSIVE PROTESTS HAVE TO BE ON THE SIDEWALKS IN FRONT OF EVERY GOD-DAMNED LOCAL RADIO STATION THAT DOES NOTHING BUT "PLUG & PLAY" HATE RADIO
We will never get through to the national conglomerates like Sinclair and Clear Channel, but we sure as hell can get through to local stations in blue areas that broadcast nothing but this crap.
These stations in major cities should be under a relentless barrage of protests and KNOW NO PEACE until they change.
There should be a heavy price for their blatant "catapulting of propaganda".
We out-number them...especially in major markets. It's about 20 years past time to put these pricks out of business.
