My city is crazy corrupt. There is only one party here. It's the democratic party. Not all politicians are awful. But, there are a lot of them who are. I don't consider Chicago democrats the same as democrats in other areas.

(7,113 posts)If you scroll down at the https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ webpage, they have links to each state's voter info.
Although specific info posted varies by state, it's important to check your voter ID info. As Malcolm Nance has said, all Russian hackers need to do is change one digit in your zip code or birth date, and you'll likely be turned away from the polls without getting to vote.
And, as the intelligence agencies confirmed, the Russians succeeded in hacking into at least 20 states' voter registration databases back in 2016. Since we've done zilch to stop them, they're probably able to get into all states' databases now.

(7,520 posts)The registration database wants your address in the exact format the post office uses to match, and if you have weird apartment numbers or something it might not find it if you write the address like
1234 Main Street, Apt A
and the post office and voter registration will have it as
1234 A Main Street
The more specific state site for MO actually suggested this change and the corrected search worked.

I went to your link and they required an email address. I just DO NOT need any more spam even from organizations I'm sympathetic with.
JaneQPublic
(7,113 posts)Actually, at the https://www.vote.org/am-i-registered-to-vote/ webpage, you can scroll down below the fill-in form that requests email address and go directly to a list of each state's voter registration info.
Of course, it's the "same difference" as going directly to your state's website, but "vote.org" is pretty easy to remember for those who plan on checking regularly.

(12,152 posts)Georgia residents should also check their "My Voter Page":
https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do
But observe the fine print:
"Note: My Voter Page provides a web-based search of data extracted from Georgias statewide voter registration database. It is NOT the official record of your registration, which is retained by the voter registration office in the county of your residence."

(23,061 posts)Since I vote every year and live in a district that's mostly repug, I didn't think I had to worry, but still living in a state with repug gov. and legislasture, it is a concern and I will continue to check. I've never bookmarked a post before, but this one is a keeper. I will share on FB as well, to my Dem friends only of course, lol.
Laura PourMeADrink
(42,770 posts)Aware that they can not lose the popular vote again in 2020...so guessing they will want to suppress Dem votes everywhere.
lark
(23,061 posts)One of the first things drupf did was start a voting commission, which got disbanded for illegal efforts at suppressing votes. So, now they will just have Russia hack the voter databases and remove lots and lots of people who voted Dem in the past election or will remove a certain percentage of Dem votes. That's what I am worried about, election theft in favor of russian repugs. We have to totally overwhelm their efforts and even then with state officials helping russia and repugs, will that be enough?

(10,494 posts)She voted for a couple of years under her maiden name after that. Before the 2012 election she checked her registration card that came in the mail and they had changed her name back to mine so it would not match her ID. She was able to change it back in time but would not have been able to vote had she not checked.

(32,587 posts)It's a quick and easy way to drop names off the voter registration rolls. What they do is check drivers' license data against the voter registration data, and if there's any discrepancy, they assume the voter registration is incorrect. So they put it on hold or delete it, without notifying anyone.
If you registered to vote 20 years ago as "Bob Jones" and you got a drivers license last year as "Robert Jones", same address, same date of birth, same everything, they assume the voter registration is incorrect or out-of-date. Something like this would be quarantined (put on hold) or deleted. Maybe the original "Bob Jones" died or moved away, and they want to get rid of all discrepancies.
It's not so much an insidious plot, as a stupid and lazy way to update the state or county's voting records. And it's causing inconvenience when people fail to discover that they were dropped. Usually they don't find out until election day, when it's too late to get re-registered.
Check now, and re-register immediately if you discover that you've been dropped. Make sure the name you use to enroll matches the name on your ID. You may be asked to show ID on election day, and it needs to match the name & address on your voter registration. It's not a plot against Democrats, they're doing this to everyone equally.

(16,199 posts)I mean, if I went to the polls and my long standing registration was deleted, I'd raise hell, grab a ballot and vote anyway. Forget a preliminary ballot - I'd rather take human lives than be denied my RIGHT to vote.
FakeNoose
(32,587 posts)...but other states have done it, and are doing it right now.
It's affecting all voters even non-affiliated ones, but I guess the "conventional wisdom" is that Republicans are rural and don't move around so much. It's still smart to check on-line before election day. And mention it to your friends.
Algernon Moncrieff
(5,781 posts)If you moved, get your date ID/ License updated and get your voters reg updated.
Find out if your state has passed ID laws. If so, have all of that ready when you go to the polls.
Check to find out if your precinct has moved since the last time you voted.

(6,926 posts)But really appreciate the effort to make sure people are good for their next opportunity to vote.
I have lived in East TN most of the last 50 years. I have voted in GOP primaries because there was no other option. I have voted in general elections for Democrats who were unopposed (and did not win). This year we actually had a real Democratic primary for some offices. We can only hope this means potential for Democratic victories in the general.
The TN GOP candidates for governor are attacking each other. One of them uses the horrible insult of "Moderate" to describe their opponents. They all swear fealty to Donald, his wall and the horror of sanctuary cities. I would be disgusted to see how much money has been spent on TV ads. I will enjoy the others sucking up to the winner after the primary.

When I was canvassing about a month ago a lady told us this story. They told her she had to come in person if she wanted to change it, which is bullshit.
These repugs don't have any other way to win except rat fucking.
