Senator demands Pompeo answer the differences between Trump's Twitter rants and actual US policy
During the hearing on Wednesday with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo struggled to define the differences between President Donald Trump’s contradicting policies and statements.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) provided an example when President Trump’s directly contradicted one of his policies over a conversation about Montenegro.
“Why shouldn’t we accept this most recent statement from the president as U.S. policy rather than the statement that you referred to on the 17th?” Murphy asked.
Pompeo tried to say that Murphy was “speculating.”
“You can speculate. You can draw whatever inferences you want for the purposes you so choose,” Pompeo said.

“So, how do I know the difference of a presidential statement not a policy? Murphy asked again.
Pompeo never gave a straightforward answer.
