The party that kidnapped children. The party that obstructs justice. The party that sabotaged health care. The party that is the party of useful idiots for Russian espionage.
This is fucking nuts. If the democrats are unable to win this November, there needs to be a big change of leadership in the Democratic party.

(20,882 posts)That is why the party of Russia is so confident they will stay in power. Notice they take no actions to stop Russia. Watered down investigations, no cyber security funding. I wonder why???
We have to vote against them in massive numbers in November.

(4,412 posts)Voter suppression and gerrymandering is a huge problem. It will only be overcome with a huge majority of the votes.

(38,958 posts)they have been in bad shape before and somehow it seems we still have a Republican Party around.

(9,670 posts)But they have Russia to bring them back to life. It's their get out of jail free card, and nothing says they won't use it to win in 2018 and 2020. I just hope we're not doing a post-mortem in 2019 to discuss that the Blue Wave wasn't enough to overcome it.

(51,974 posts)we really shouldn't preemptively post-mortem the elections just yet.
but we already know that retaking the senate is a huge challenge because most republican senators aren't up for re-election this cycle and most of those who are are in very red states. plus we've got a lot of seats to defend just to break even.
we also know there's more gerrymandering than there's ever been and a whole lot of voter disenfranchisement going on.
plus corporate and foreign money and other forms of corruption.
with everything that's going on, i really don't think the minority leader of the house or the senate is likely to loom large this election.

Having said that, I wish you were right, but itll be a while before the Republicans become a fragmented, powerless minority party.

And there will need to be some heavy introspection. And it will be ugly.
But lets see how November goes first. Well have plenty of time later. I have my serious criticisms about the party, but Im withholding them mostly. November just needs to be our entire thing at the moment.

(11,694 posts)You have to remember that it isn't just the Republican party though. The system is set up to protect the status quo which is wealth and White Supremacy. That is what the Republicans truly represent. There are billionaire media, fossil fuel, shipping, and other wealthy people who do not want their revenue streams and accumulation of wealth to be disrupted in any way. They are using their influence and the passions (anti-LGBT, anti-Black, and anti-Immigrant) of average people as well as their fears (crime, economic concerns, changing society) to solidify an active voting base.
To us, who are passionate about politics and policy, who get their information from different sources and try to go into depth on issues; to us, it is obvious what the Republicans are doing. To the average citizen, they are just trying to make ends meet and/or just focusing on their sports teams, who is winning on their favorite reality show, which celebrities are throwing shade or getting married to each other, etc...
46% of the eligible voting population did not bother to vote in the last presidential election. The election was decided by less than 80,000 votes across several states. There are known facts about Russian interference and strong suspicions about actual tampering of the vote. Pair that with gerrymandering and voter suppression and just the math of the situation and you are looking at an uphill climb.
The media is also stoking up the natural conflict that exists within the Democratic Party, being the big tent that it is between progressives and moderate forces.
You are right, we should, based on the issues and what is best for the country, CRUSH the Republicans. The sad truth is that the election is only partly based on those things.
We all need to work to get people out to vote. That is what will win. We cannot rely on "the leadership" to make it alright. We the people have to ensure it.

(4,379 posts)I am tired of it. The democrats take the high road, The Republicans take the low road and win. The Republicans control everything now. Why do so many democrats stay home during elections?
How could so many democrats who voted for Obama vote for Trump?
This is just my opinion , but I believe the Republicans are winning because they play low down dirty hardball and Democrats play nice softball.
The Democrats keep on hoping the Republicans will come back to moderation, The center, that is not happening. I was a big fan of Obama and he tried to take the high road. He tried to work with the Republicans. The Republicans fucked Obama. They were complete assholes. They did not care about anything except beating Obama.
The Democrats have to stop playing softball, they have to stop thinking the Republican party will come to the senses. The Democrats need to attack and destroy the Republican party. They need to play low down dirty hardball. It may take knew leadership to do that.
