Trump allies in the House decided not to force a vote on impeaching Robert Muellers boss.By Andrew Prokopandrew@vox.com Jul 26, 2018, 12:15pm EDT
On Wednesday night, Freedom Caucus leaders Reps. Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) filed articles of impeachment against Rosenstein. The stated reason was mainly that Rosenstein allegedly wasnt giving enough documents to Congress. But in context, the move which wasnt even certain to pass the House, let alone lead to Rosensteins removal from office was clearly part of an effort by President Trumps allies to attack the Justice Department and undermine special counsel Robert Muellers investigation, which Rosenstein supervises.
When Meadows filed the impeachment articles, only 11 of the 236 Republicans in the House were willing to sign on to them, making it unclear how much support his effort had. House Oversight Committee Chair Trey Gowdy, for instance, had said earlier that he wouldnt back the effort (Impeach him for what? he asked). GOP leaders were also unenthusiastic about the controversial push, which would likely divide their party.

(58,647 posts)they were hoping it would remain an open issue over the coming break. That way they could tell their folks back home, "See, we're working on stopping the Mueller probe."
Not sure I care either way, but it actually might have been a good thing for Dems to run on. Apparently the Repub "leaders" realized that.

These idiot GOPers apparently don't know that you have to appeal to more than your base to hang onto power.

I hope that they all wised up/got WOKE and will vote in the midterms this year.

(82,849 posts)The highly principled folks of the Freedom Caucus being so gauche as to play politics?! I wonder if any of their fans will be disappointed? Just kidding, of course they won't.
