GOP lawmaker's home listed as top single-family water user in Austin last year

The home of Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) reportedly used more city water than any other single-family residence in Austin, Texas last year, according to data from the city’s water utility obtained by Statesman.

The publication reported that McCaul’s family consumed more than 1.4 million gallons of water last year.
The GOP lawmaker’s office told the local publication McCaul's family has been experiencing chronic issues with its water pipes, Statesman reported.

The exact amount of city water used at the congressman’s estimated $7.3 million residence remains unknown as the family reportedly opted to have some information regarding its water usage omitted from public records, Statesman reported.

The local paper reported McCaul's residence was ranked as the city’s 6th top water user in 2016.
The water usage information was provided to the publication by a local utility activist and was verified later by Austin Water.

From 2011, during a state-wide, devastating drought:

...McCaul's spokesman, Mike Rosen, told The Texas Tribune this week that the congressman has dealt with a "series of leaks over last two to three years," and that "the leaks for the most part have gone undetected for a long time," because they were not visible on the surface. He said one leak involved a swimming pool and another, which would have affected the recent numbers, involved a busted pipe related to a contractor's work for a neighbor's realtor...

people protesting on his wet driveway right now. Wasting water in Southern CA is a BIG, BIG NO NO! We actually have water neighborhood monitors who are supposed to report anyone caught washing their car, washing the pavement, etc.
