About ten of us gathered at my mothers house when my girl, who lives in Europe, came for a visit. My daughter has not been home in two years. We held this event as a surprise for my mother. My brother and sister were there, along with a few of my nieces and nephews.
My oldest sister, who is in her sixties, is dating this racist asshole who is, of course, a Trump supporter. The rest of us, except said asshole and my sister, are Democrats. As usual, the racist boyfriend started in with the typical republican nonsense: anti-vax bullshit, anti-immigrant bullshit, etc.
We all argued with him, but when he started on a really vile racist rant, my girl had had enough. During his immigrant tirade he suggested that black people should be forced to work in agriculture to harvest crops after we deport all immigrants.
My daughter got up, stood right in his face and told him You have to leave. I have not seen my family in two years. We are not going to sit her and listen to your racist bullshit. You are smiling because you think Im kidding. Im not. You have to leave. And he did!
I argue with this fucker all the time, but I never thought to just EJECT him! I am SO PROUD of my girl!!!

(1,336 posts)"Being sent to Coventry" -- which means that you intentionally ignore the person saying the vile, racist (or any other adjective which fits) crap. In a group setting, there has to be agreement beforehand that everyone will ignore and talk around that person. It avoids the possibility of a nasty argument, and usually drives the person crazy!
But good on your daughter for taking a stand!

(14,624 posts)I forgot to mention that my sister now lives in my mothers house. My mom is ninety and although in good health, we worry about her.
My sister is on a very limited income. Since they both live in the same town and the rest of us live away, it made sense for my sister to move in with Mother. It works for everyone. Sister doesnt have to worry about paying bills, Mother has a live-in companion.
This is a very recent development and my daughter temporararily forgot that my moms house is now my sisters house also.
So my daughter EJECTED my sisters boyfriend from the house where my sister lives!
My sister is basically a coward. Typical republican. As we were leaving, she complained to my daughter that we were all bullying her dumbass boyfriend. She made sure to say this while I was far enough away that I couldnt hear her. I am the youngest and she is the oldest, but she knows I will call her out when she talks shit about me or anyone else.

I was at a party and one of the guests started talking to me. He was spouting Pox News propaganda. I asked if he watched Pox and he said yes. My response was "I don't talk to people who watch Pox News." He asked if I was kidding. I said no and leave me alone. His jaw dropped and I walked away.

(51,584 posts)I only had to kick someone out once in my life. It was 10 days after my little dog died at Christmas. She was my life and my best friend loved her to bits too. Her roommate came in and ruined our visit by telling me that there is no way a dog should be mourned since they are such vile beasts. I kicked him out and found out that he never even had a dog as a pet. My friend was in love with him and didn't apologized for ruining our visit or making me even more depressed. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would be proud to know your daughter and would invite her to any event I hosted knowing she has a good head on her shoulders and has enough self respect to stand up for herself against an obvious asshole.

(14,624 posts)I heard of them from watching the show Malcomb In the Middle which, I think, is one of the funniest sit-coms ever written.
I only have one daughter, so of course I would think a show about a family with four (or five, if you count Jamie) horrible sons is hilarious.

(14,624 posts)I thought that show offered the best role ever for whats his face, the guy who later played Walter White. I could never get into that show, Breaking Bad, because Hal from MITM was such a likeable guy.
Its funny to recall that he also played the dentist in the Seinfeld series.
I guess thats what makes a great actor. The ability to play good and bad characters equally well.

Cranston (thank you for reminding me of his name. . . . brain fart) also played the titular character in the movie Wakefield. He plays a very bitter man who fakes his own disappearance as retaliation against his family.
The entire movie is mostly Cranstons character reflecting on his life and his relationships. It must be difficult to pull off such a performance so strongly dependent upon one character. He was great in that role.

(37,648 posts)sort of...years ago.
My youngest sister and her husband were going through a bad divorce. He had been betraying her for some time with kinky sex parties & such. She found out. By the time she found out, he had a gf...and he left her. It broke her and their two kids (about 11 to 13).
There was going to be a holiday get together at our father's house (he was married to someone else). I lived out of state, so one of them called me to tell me about the dinner and hoped I could come. I said I would. Then she told me that our sister's husband was going to be there.
What?...says I, shocked. She explained that they thought it would help the kids to have their father their. They wanted to be inclusive and make everyone happy, and be like it used to be.
So I told her that they could do what they want, and I would go. But there was no way that I was going to sit at the same table with that SOB and pretend that he hadn't done the things he'd done and crushed my sister. I told her not to worry...they could go ahead and eat, and I'd eat upstairs alone and not make trouble. But there was NO WAY I was going to break bread w/that assh*le. And that I didn't think it was helpful to the children for everyone to pretend there wasn't an elephant in the room and that things were still normal with their family...although none of my business.
Thank goodness they decided not to invite him, and I could eat at the table! Sometimes it take just one person to speak up.

(14,624 posts)Like most republicans, he is a taker, not a giver. When he hears that my brother or I will be in town to visit our mother, he cant wait to show up for a free meal. We always go out to dinner.
And there is no way my brother or I would ever let our mother pay for a meal, though she is very comfortable financially. But that mooch will always show up, and never once has he offered to pay for a for a meal or even chip in.
Sorry, but we live in the south. Men just DO NOT let women pick up the check unless it is agreed upon beforehand. That worthless SOB never reaches for the check. I always pay for the entire table unless my brother happens to be in town.
