On July 2, a year had passed since the cable networks last segment mentioning U.S. participation in the war on Yemen, which has killed in excess of 15,000 people and resulted in over a million cases of cholera. The U.S. is backing a Saudi-led bombing campaign with intelligence, refueling, political cover, military hardware and, as of March, ground troops. None of this matters at all to what Adweek calls the network of the Resistance, which has since its last mention of the U.S. role in the destruction of Yemen found time to run over a dozen segments highlighting war crimes committed by the Syrian and Russian governments in Syria.
By way of contrast, as MSNBC was marking a year without mentioning the U.S. role in Yemen, the PBS NewsHour was running a three-part series on the war, with the second part headlined, American-Made Bombs in Yemen Are Killing Civilians, Destroying Infrastructure and Fueling Anger at the US. The NewsHours Jane Ferguson reported:

(58,724 posts)The war in Yemen is now the world's worst humanitarian crisis, with more than 22 million people -- three-quarters of the population -- in desperate need of aid and protection, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.

(22,990 posts)MSNBC does not qualify as junk food by any stretch, but it's only part of a nutritious diet. It also has people you won't find anywhere else.

(58,724 posts)But I think they could afford to give this crisis some coverage and attention.

(58,724 posts)Or, as you suggest, a 15 minute segment covering this sort of thing.
I mean this is literally the worst humanitarian crisis of 2018 according to the UN.

Maybe just do one 10-minute segment about what is going on in Yemen.
Perhaps people will become interested and want to learn more.
And then perhaps they will want to hold our government accountable and demand action.

MSNBC is just another mainstream media outlet, its about money. There is no liberal media, there is no honest media, there is only corporate media.

(58,724 posts)Death surrounds us. I dont know anyone who has not been touched by this conflict.
The Yemeni people face almost unprecedented human suffering. One in three Yemenis is on the brink of famine. We faced the worst cholera outbreak in modern history. Yemen now is, according to UN experts, the worst humanitarian disaster in the world. It is a human-made disaster, created by warring parties who have committed violation after violation.

What can be done to help the people of Yemen?
To start, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and others should suspend arms sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The United States and its allies claim to be leading voices in efforts to enforce international norms and minimize civilian deaths in war. Yet it is these countries bombs which are killing my countrymen, women and children.

(30,540 posts)because they leave out really important news in the the World and here in the US. I have to turn on PBS' Democrazy Now and NHK News along with the BBC to find out what the rest of the World is hearing. MSNBC should at least have one segment on Yemen, Global Climate Change and other big issues during their hours and hours of programming.
