who just completed his second term as mayor of New Orleans.
He personally undertook the task of ridding New Orleans of the confederate memorials in the city by using moral persuasion and his gift of gab. This endeared him to the AA community, much as his father was for his fight to end desegregation 30 years ago during his stint as mayor.
Landrieu, a Democrat, very personable and a fighter, discussed how he had to confront and work around institutional, systemic racism to get the statues removed as the people in power, in construction who owned the cranes to do the removal, refused to work with him. He did get it done though and the segment is well worth watching if it makes it to youtube (too early to post a link).
He bears watching for 2020, maybe not quite well known enough to lead the ticket but voters will determine that. He's good.
