David Hogg Posts A Great Tweet: Robert Kennedy Answering drumpf's Braggadocio About the GDP.

@davidhogg111

When you hear of our “leaders” celebrating the GDP as a measuring stick of our nations success, remember these words from the late Robert Kennedy.

Listen, because these words are as important today as they were when he first spoke them 50 years ago.

“Even if we act to erase material poverty, there is another greater task, it is to confront the poverty of satisfaction - purpose and dignity - that afflicts us all.

Too much and for too long, we seemed to have surrendered personal excellence and community values in the mere accumulation of material things. Our Gross National Product, now, is over $800 billion dollars a year, but that Gross National Product - if we judge the United States of America by that - that Gross National Product counts air pollution and cigarette advertising, and ambulances to clear our highways of carnage.

It counts special locks for our doors and the jails for the people who break them. It counts the destruction of the redwood and the loss of our natural wonder in chaotic sprawl.

It counts napalm and counts nuclear warheads and armored cars for the police to fight the riots in our cities. It counts Whitman's rifle and Speck's knife, and the television programs which glorify violence in order to sell toys to our children.

Yet the gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials.

It measures neither our wit nor our courage, neither our wisdom nor our learning, neither our compassion nor our devotion to our country, it measures everything in short, except that which makes life worthwhile.

And it can tell us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans.

If this is true here at home, so it is true elsewhere in world.”

He is so mature and thoughtful. So beyond his years. I really hope he goes into politics one day. We need more people like him.

... to the point that many theorize Man only as an economic being. Thus the pundits who attribute Mr Trump's victory to the economy (stupid), when there is quite a bit of evidence suggesting that the economy is not the problem.

not just because it's been 50 years now but because we are a billion miles away from what he was and what he wanted for this country.

run for President.

'Course he could start off as a US Representative at the age of 25 (he could do that in 2025!) and then go on to become a Senator at the age of 30 before going for the Big Brass Ring.

The cops shooting blacks, tRump separating kids from their parents, those get the front pages.

The cops getting together to buy a kid a business licence so he can keep his dot dog stand running. The ones who go all-out to find a woman's lost dog and get him home again. The young people who spend all of the allowances to help the poor. The waitress who helps an old man eat. The young man behind the counter at an ice cream parlor who doesn't even hesitate to add a couple of his own dollars for a little boy who doesn't have quite enough money to buy the treat he wants.

There ARE more good people than bad in this country. Let's run on a platform of encouraging that rather than hate and rage.

And thank you Davit Hogg for reminding us of what really CAN make America great again!
