Judge in migrant reunification case says government at fault for 'losing several hundred parents'

BY JOHN BOWDEN - 07/28/18 08:28 AM EDT

A federal judge commended the Trump administration on Friday for the progress made reuniting families separated by the Department of Homeland Security's zero-tolerance immigration policy, but blamed the the administration for losing track of some migrant parents.

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw said that the Trump administration was "at fault" for deporting more than 400 parents while their children remained in custody, according to CBS News. "The government is at fault for losing several hundred parents in the process and that's where we go next" in the process, Sabraw said.

"Each (department) was like its own stovepipe, each had its own boss, and they did not communicate," he continued. "What was lost in the process was the family."

Sabraw faulted the government's lack of a plan to reunify families when the detainment program began as a key reason for the delay in family reunifications. The Trump administration faced Thursday a court order to reunify the remaining families.

All thinking is focused on politics, and none on the effects of the policy.

And why haven't they ordered them to take pictures of every child, with its location , then put them on a website their parents can look for them at. Then the government has to pay all costs and penalties for those responsible , and allow civil lawsuits for them being lost in the system so long, and return them free of charge.

Otherwise it boosts the narrative that government is bad.

has really bothered me about this whole thing...how do we explain the hundreds of government employees who went along with this, implemented it and then abused the families

Looking forward to the lawsuits, but freeing the children needs to be a priority every single day.

An individual who did anything remotely like this would have been charged with mass kidnapping. Why give the government the benefit of the doubt simply because it is the government?

The assumption that a government always acts in "good faith" is ludicrous and counter to the realities unfolding right before our eyes.

It wasn't a case of departments not communicating. Nor was it a case of simply "losing" parents. They said they were taking the kids to hold them hostage. That's kidnapping.

They didn't care what happened once they took the kids. They had no plan because they expect to not be held accountable for their actions.

They did it out of petty viciousness and then bragged about it.

There was no "good faith" whatsoever and Trump's government should be treated as the criminals they have shown themselves to be.

You can't "good faith" kidnap anymore than you can "good faith" torture.

Sick, sick.
