Both of our incumbents are Democrats, and the one who is up for re-election this year, Martin Heinrich is almost without a doubt going to win re-election. The Republican running is a complete nobody.

Earlier this year the Libertarians actually running for Governor and Lt. Governor failed to get enough votes in the primary to get a place on the ballot. There had been a Libertarian running for Senate, but according to today's Santa Fe New Mexican, he plans to drop out, which is the only reason Johnson is making noises about running.

Gary Johnson is largely forgotten in this state, it seems. I moved here in 2008, some five years after he left office, and I'd never heard or seen him referenced until he decided to run for President as a Libertarian in 2016. He did get nearly 10% of the vote here, but I suspect some significant number of those votes were from people who felt they could safely vote for him, as it was quite obvious Hillary Clinton would take this state.

Oh, and for what it's worth, nationwide he got 2.3% of the vote in 2016, compared to Jill Stein's 0.7%.
