In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump famously defied the odds by narrowly breaking through the so-called Midwestern "blue wall," which included Michigan. A new poll from NBC News, however, shows that wall could be being rebuilt.
In Michigan which Trump won by less than 11,000 votes only 36 percent of registered voters approve of Trump and 54 percent disapprove, according to the poll. Meanwhile, only 28 percent believe he deserves re-election, while 62 percent want someone else to be president.
Trump fared similarly in another "blue wall" state, Wisconsin, which he won by nearly 23,000 votes. There, just 36 percent approve of the president, 52 percent disapprove, 31 percent say he should be re-elected, and 63 percent say he should not.

(6,377 posts)Trump is going to have a really hard time getting re-elected. He won those upper midwest states by incredibly thin margins and he's highly unlikely to do so again.
His own base is shrinking, he's losing support with independents and he's pissed off and energized the Democratic base. Considering he barely won Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, that's a really bad combination for him in two years.

(6,377 posts)Jeff Flake? Too much of a Bush conservative to have a real chance.
Ted Cruz might be their best shot, but if he won, he'd risk pissing off Trump's base so much by beating Trump that they'd turn their backs on him.

(34,661 posts)These Poll's are all over the place, and,it they are all predicated on the desired results of who cuts the checks.
Nate Silver has been unusually quite since last winter,my guess is he is seeing the skewing of the Q &A. We are getting polled at least once a week, and after doing polling years ago,are able to catch the gotcha questions. Generic GOP Push Polls are the most skewed to their desired results.
