Several years ago, at a yard sale, I came across some broken pieces of China with burn marks on them. They were not part of a set, so I was curious why anybody would keep them. Then I turned the saucer over and sew "Dresden" on the bottom. Even though I had no use for them, I bought the pieces.

One of the things I truly dislike (despise might be a better word) is that movies or TV shows will portray fire as scary, but not so bad. It will show someone going back into a burning structure and rescuing someone or something. In reality, fire spreads much faster than most people realize.

Take the example of the Station Fire in West Warwick, RI. People had only 90 seconds from the time the fire started to get out safely. Essentially anyone who did not get out in that time died. If you are interested, there is a video of that fire to watch on the internet.

Water is something else entirely, because it's destructiveness isn't usually so swift, but it can be complete. We had flash flooding here in Santa Fe this past Monday night, and while no lives were lost (a thing to be very grateful for) the property damage was significant. Somewhat like the swift spread of fire, water can rise with astonishing rapidity.

I have nothing but sympathy for those caught in the current fires. I cannot begin to imagine what it would be like to lose everything I own. I don't know how I would find the strength to rebuild if this happened to me.

It is really easy to blame people for living in a "fire zone". But these people have had the incredible bad luck to be living where they were in the midst of a serious drought. They did not go out of their way to live in a "fire zone". They wound up stuck there.

I can only say that I hope the survivors are able to rebuild and reclaim their lives.

Cedar Fire: 3,000 structures burned, 1 million evacuated. Cause: Lost person starts signal fire.
Witch Fire: 1,700 structures burned, 1/2 million evacuated. Cause: Downed power lines, untrimmed trees.

CA has had severe weather in the past and it is going to continue to worsen due to the GOP's unrealistic and damaging policies. Climate Change is real and the GOP is allowing these catastrophes to continue and worsen. They are not allowing our scientists to do the research needed or to release the data they already have. We are dependent on out allies (if we have any left after the fucking moron has insulted them for 18 months) to continue their research and share their data.

The firefighters are doing a super job though!

I pray to God that Pennsylvania never gets this dry, or we'll burn up just like California is now.
Good luck and stay safe everyone.
