Look to the Southern sky and you can see the red planet. Very cool!
Just to the right is Saturn.
Very cool!
Go out and look!

(23,296 posts)I am camping on the shore of Flathead Lake, Montana this weekend. Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Venus are crazy bright this evening. What a view. 😍💫
Equinox Moon
(6,344 posts)Plus, a nearly full moon that just eclipsed yesterday!
Wow!
MontanaMama
(23,296 posts)We didnt get any of the eclipse but the Blood Moon was gorgeous last night and again tonight. We had thunderstorms this afternoon and water too rough to take the boat out. Tonight, however is clear, calm with a diamond filled sky. So glad someone else is looking up,

(9,659 posts)I don't think I've ever seen it so bright. The rest of the planets you mentioned, fairly evenly spaced apart, have been like a big clockworks in the sky. So far, the smoke from all the fires hasn't been too bad here.
Several years ago we were camping on the southwest side of Flathead Lake, 10-20 miles from Polson. I was watching the sky late and sure enough, the Aurora's started up. Pretty soon they were much brighter and folks started waking up hootin and ahollerin. The next few nights they gradually got dimmer. It was a great memory for all of us.

(23,296 posts)Mars putting on a show this summer. I live in a small valley surrounded by mountains and Mars doesn't show itself often. If it does, it is usually really late at night.
I wondered about the auroras last night....stayed up only till 11 or so and didnt see anything start up. Were coming back next weekend so maybe Ill get lucky. I know theyve seen them near Glacier Park this summer. Thanks for the reminder!

(2,505 posts)Mars, is almost always visible to the naked eye (depending on its orbital position in relation to the Earth). Its just that Mars is much closer, so its extra-brilliant
The new and improved Mars for the summer of 2018 kinda thing

(706 posts)It's amazing. Saturn and Jupiter too. They're sort of all lined up from East to West right now with Saturn in the middle passing through the Milky Way near Sagittarius. That darn moon needs to get out of the way though!
Equinox Moon
(6,344 posts)You are the lucky one with access to a telescope.
roamer65
(36,744 posts)Actually that is more scenic than Mars, if you have a telescope.
Mars is just an orange dirt ball...lol.
Jupiter is always fun because you can see the major moons around it with a telescope.

(36,744 posts)So within a very short period of evening time, you get to see 4 planets.

(25,155 posts)Not used to seeing Mars so late a night. Seems to always set early.

(25,817 posts)Although if you live in a large city with lots of light pollution, you may not see it as readily.
The truly sad thing is that so many of us never see a dark night sky.
