(3,764 posts)Russian (and many other languages on at Duolingo for free...http://www.duolingo.com . They have apps on Apple and Android too.
I am a native English speaker and I started learning Spanish on Duolingo. I'm probably intermediate now. I have gone a good way toward learning Portuguese. I've also learned a little bit of Dutch, French, Italian and Russian. I'm still at basic phrases, learning sounds and vocabulary.

(45,404 posts)I was under the impression that it was all automated based on keywords and that's why much of it doesn't make sense or sound like a real conversation, just talking points.
I pity the fools whose jobs are to write tweets to people in a foreign country just to irritate them. Russia needs to create better jobs for their people.

(32,612 posts)It seems that many of them are using stock answers from an archive of RWNJ bullshit answers, and they just cut & paste whatever Trump-humper BS they like. The reason I say that is I have seen the same answer word-for-word in several different postings whether the answer is appropriate or not. The "bots" never initiate a thread, they only jump in with a wise-ass answer to someone else's post. It's usually short, maybe one or two sentences. If you reply to them, they never answer back because (I think) they don't understand enough english to carry on a conversation.
There are Russians who are bi-lingual and can participate in a give-and-take conversation, but they wouldn't be hanging out on Yahoo, or one of the Gawker Media blogs anyway. The ones we see are more in the low-level abilities, and they probably get paid per-post.

(54,328 posts)When I get no reply at all, I usually assume it's because the poster I replied to saw they were outed, and left to find a new name, or it was a bot to begin with.

They immediately left the thread I was on.
It is a great idea to expand on. We should fill threads, on other sites where the majority of responses are trump humpers, with Russian responses. Visually it would be something to see so much Russian in the thread, no matter what it said or even made sense. One way to flummox them. Remind them who their masters are.

(12,374 posts)she told me that Latvians often call Russians dog face because Russians tend to have facial features like a basset hound. For some reason this makes them extremely angry. So you might try that.
