I've seen my share of water moccasins and other water snakes, but this was a new thing for me. I find snakes fascinating, but probably a good thing to know:
This one from NC a few days ago:

And this one, Sacramento:

(7,768 posts)I was trout fishing on the Methow River in Central Washington and I saw a snake swimming towards a rock that was near me. It slithered up onto the rock and I was able to identify it as a rattlesnake. Holy shit it still gives me goosebumps!

But it can be a bit unnerving the first time to see one you typically think of as a land snake doing it.
Cool videos.

(38,361 posts)I was standing there casting out my line when I noticed a snake out about 10 feet in the river sort of marking time and holding it's position and looking directly at me. It stayed there for a good 5 minutes and it occurred to me that maybe I am in this snake's way. I stepped aside and moved about 10 feet upstream and sure enough the snake made it's way to my old spot---followed by about 15 baby snakes! Made my day.

(20,882 posts)One of my friends had her hand dangling and felt something brush her hand, she grabbed it and pulled up a rattlesnake, screamed and immediately dropped it. We were all shocked and paddled quickly to shore. I had a hard time after that ever going tubing again.
