Is Alan Dershowitz OK?

I just tried to listen to Alan Dershowitz on Kasie DC. He had to resort to name calling and meaningless touting of his civil liberty bona fides. He was coming across badly - just another arrogant law professor who is confident he is always the smartest person in the room. I started to feel embarrassed for the guy.

He used to be a legitimate civil libertarian. Has he really just become a Trump shill? Is he selling his book. Or is he just past his sell-by date?

Since he's always been skeert of the Nasty Evil Muslins, he eagerly jumped on the very loud mainstream promoted torture and "zero tolerance" bandwagon after 9/11/2001 and never looked back.

He's always been intellectually shallow. That he was able to sound like a civil libertarian (as the O.P. called him) back when he was a callow youth and surrounded by many more legal minds who were actually dedicated to civil rights is not surprising at all.
He just switched one spotlight for another.

but has lost the plot, and now he's trying to reclaim his former fame and respect by going on the talk shows and taking a controversial position he can't rationally support. He and Giuliani are two peas in a pod.

Not sure what's going on with the man. The whispers and rumors link him loosely to Epstein and his penchant for underaged girls, wild parties, etc. Not sure whether there's something to that or Dershowitz has simply decided to play the contrarian.

Whatever. It's not a pretty look.

Usually when he's on those shows, he's the only attorney on the panel or he's up against non-practicing, fairly non-experienced lawyers. He talks over people and puts on his I'm a Harvard Professor airs and no one challenges him.

This time, he was on a panel filled with other lawyers who see through his BS and know that, not only does he have law all wrong, but he's really not all that interested in the civil liberties issues he claims. His purpose is to shill for Trump and sell books.

He got his ass called out today and didn't like it one bit.

An even passable lawyer enjoys arguing legal issues with other lawyers. The smarter the other lawyers the better.

When Dershowitz resorted to name calling, it was obvious he wasn't even trying to argue the legal point. I couldn't really find his legal argument for all the ego and bluster.

It was really sad to watch.

has to recuse himself for a Conflict of Interest is absolute BULLSHIT. If that were the case a President could obstruct justice with impunity because he would be able to get rid of every witness to obstruction until he found an official who would allow him to obstruct. Every witness to obstruction would have to recuse themselves

Dershowitz is a middling lawyer that got lucky with a profile case - it happens all the time. Even if a bad lawyer loses a profile case they get referred to as “experts” in the field. Absolutely maddening.

A.D. is thrilled with Don the Con’s policies concerning Israel. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem was just one move of many. The Zionists have been waiting for an Israeli stooge for friggin’ decades. A.D. will support Don the Con until his death as a result.

who would be better for Israel/Likud?

because HRC didn't kowtow to Netanyahu's policies utterly (just mostly, like normal for American pols) and said some things about settlers being counterproductive, they went with Trump.

a Jewish man, who's family fled Berlin when he was a toddler, votes for a shameless fascist because he embraces Israel's Apartheid policies. they suck.

a great way to whore himself and get a lot of paid appearances. The "liberal" who backs up Trump on law issues. Fox grabbed him first of course and then CNN decided they wanted to get in on the action.

The onset of senile dementia is unpredictable. I am sure that underlying mental conditions make the appearance of dementia occur earlier.

In any event, it's sad to see someone come so obviously off the rails.
