they thought it was very relevant during this time. MSNBC does not normally show movies. Also, CNN has been airing a documentary type of program about Putin, his rise to power and the terrible things he has done. I think it is good that the networks are trying to educate people.

... so we can compare it with how lazy and venal they are today.

Actually I don't blame the journalists themselves, it's the management level on every newspaper, political journal and TV news outlet - they are the ones to blame. They all sold out their principles for big, big money and now here we are. I believe a lot of the reporters and columnists (the foot soldiers) are just as disgusted as we are. Several have left the industry over it.

I do love this movie though. It's such a classic!

of several newspapers. Someone is working overtime today!

Is there a Watergate reporting moment coming from one of the newspapers again? Is that the reason for the over the top Fox attack on the media in support of Trump?

(Besides the graphic and headline being vomit-inducing state propaganda?)

but he was a Deputy Director of the FBI IIRC. He came out a few years ago, just before his death.

Mark Felt

Deep Throat is the pseudonym given to the secret informant who provided information in 1972 to Bob Woodward, who shared it with Carl Bernstein. Woodward and Bernstein were reporters for The Washington Post, and Deep Throat provided key details about the involvement of U.S. President Richard Nixon's administration in what came to be known as the Watergate scandal. In 2005, 31 years after Nixon's resignation and 11 years after Nixon's death, a family attorney stated that former Federal Bureau of Investigation Associate Director Mark Felt was Deep Throat. Felt was suffering from dementia at the time and had previously denied being Deep Throat, but Woodward and Bernstein confirmed the attorney's claim.

Glass and wood phone booths, thick telephone books with everyone's name, number and address, library cards, pens/pencils/notebooks, having to ask for an "outside line", smoking permitted everywhere, lots of white men and few women/minorities in the newsroom, CRT TVs, no security cameras...

Great movie...riveting to see it again.

Watching it damn near kills me, though. I gave up smoking about 12 years ago, and watching Dustin Hoffman light up one after another brought it all back to me - could actually still taste it! It's a good thing there weren't any butts in the house.

Wonder if Melly and Donny were curled up on the couch watching it too.

trying to squash his "enemies". COINTELLPRO was only one program meant to stifle dissent. While the Mueller investigation is wider, Watergate was deeper.
