(21,615 posts)Why? Because a big part of the 2nd quarter bounce was due to consumers and businesses stocking up ahead of higher proces brought about by Cheeto's trade war.
The 3rd and - particularly - 4th quarters will reflect the inevitable pullback.
Thanks for sharinf these poll numbers. Important news.

(99,710 posts)In a way we are fortunate. A normal president of either party would be over 50% with this economy.

(21,615 posts)It's widely suspected among economists that Rove routinely had GDP numbers massaged during Bush's disastrous second term.
They would a) understate inflation ('implicit prices', in national accounts jargon) by, say, measuring real GDP against 1 or 2% inflation - which of course was absurd, since, as we all remember, prices were jumping by 10% a year or more in '05 to '08.
And b) they would deliberately issue a padded GDP growth number in the premliminary release (the one that gets all the press attention), and then revise it downward to a more accurate figure later - which of course had the added effect of helping keep rates lower than they would otherwise be.
To all that we should add Rove's bright idea of keeping the Iraq and Afghanistan wars off the budget - putting out deficit figures short by $175 billion or more.
If Dubya was capable of those kinds of games with the economic numbers, just imagine this administration!
