Once Republicans start losing Texas because of the Hispanic vote a lot will change

Once they realize they can't keep winning by just courting white voters they will suddenly and miraculously be "okay" with blacks and hispanics and start courting the strong religious types in those demographics. So the split between race will start to be less noticable but they will use abortion and religion as their main weapon. That's when we will have to start worrying more about the threat of a theocracy.

Any other thoughts on how this would change the political landscape?

and other conservative racists coexisting happily in one party?

That's not just a thought but material for some rather spectacular political cartoons and New Yorker covers.

that tends to influence political orientations. Roughly half of all human beings trend conservative, anywhere from very moderate to strong to extremist and in different types, such as social and conservative. And all conservatives have some degree of reservation about people who are different, but some as we know are strong to rabid on the subject.

This goes for all humanity, and there is no racial, religious, or ethnic group that is not human and thus without its share of bigots. Skin color is irrelevant--bigots of all races exhibit the same sort of hostile and dishonest behaviors toward those they see as different.

So, for a smile, now try imagining our nation's racists all come together in one conservative party, no longer only white but now multicolor and wonderful diverse.

If they get to the point that they might lose Texas in a Presidential election, they will pass a law allocating electoral votes on Congressional districts rather than winner take all. They tried this in Pennsylvania and Virginia some years back. This WILL happen in Virginia if they ever get a Republican Governor with majorities in both houses again.

don't count your chickens yet.

And it won't just be the Hispanic vote. Demographics are changing because a lot of people are moving to Texas from blue and bluer states as well.

I read somewhere that Texas would be the most populous state in the US by 2040-45ish?

That said, the republicans will use all their dirty tricks. Gerrymandering, ultraconservative judges, etc.

and all people seemed to care about were the local elections; school board, sheriff, county clerk and so on. These are very well paid jobs in a depressed area, and also carry a number of patronage jobs with them. Your cousin gets elected sheriff, and you get a job in the courthouse.

Nobody seem to give a shit about governor, senator or anything else. I think I saw one Obama sign in my neighborhood in two elections.

It is going to hit red gulf states. GOP has firmly denied it is going to happen but “you don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.”

I had this wild thought a couple days ago. The Florida acquirer must be breeming full now. What happens if with the ocean rising, some strange force dynamic happens and we end up floating away.

Crazy, I know, but I seriously had that thought.

Sorry, the Hispanics can't overcome that number, if it holds anywhere close to that. This is math-based, not wish-based. At 44% self-identified conservatives in the 2016 exit poll there simply isn't room for liberals and moderates to win statewide races.

Like Georgia, the goal this year should be a 2% drop in that number, down to 42%. We won't win the senate race but there needs to be reason to be optimistic, and not mere subjective fluff.
