(20,996 posts)...He was trying to work off his debt to at least one Putin* oligarch. And that is the reason that ultimately Manafort* won't flip. It is not to protect tRump*, it's to prevent the long arm of the Russian oligarchs/mob/FSB from exacting their revenge.

He also probably was hoping it would pls Putin and help him get that 12m out of Russia he allegedly was owed.

(10,875 posts)Deripaska's aluminum company (the Russian oligarch that Manafort was working with, owed millions to, and who Paulie offered access to trump to get whole with) was finally sanctioned a couple of month's ago....or at least his company was. This week Mnuchin says they are going to remove sanctions from Deripaska's company (coincidentally, ahead of the Manafort trial beginning), without Congressional approval. Hmmmm indeed.
