In a shocking moment, no one said zero tolerance was a success and one official said he warned of traumatic injury to immigrant children.
Top Trump administration officials were asked in a Senate hearing on Tuesday to raise their hands if they thought that the zero tolerance immigration and family separation policies were good ideas.
Not a single one raised their hand.
Asked by Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) who here thinks zero-tolerance has been a success, five witnesses at the Senate Judiciary Committees hearing on immigration enforcement and family reunification efforts sat on their hands.
The witnesses included the acting chief of U.S. Border Patrol, the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcements deportation unit, the director of the Department of Justices office for immigration review, and the coordinating official of Department of Health and Human Services family reunification efforts. They also declined to raise their hands when asked who thinks that the family separation policy has been a success.
Blumenthals headcount was one shocking moment of many in the committees hearings on the administrations enactment of a largely disastrous policy of separating children from immigrant parents detained at Americas southern border, as well as the bungled court-mandated attempts to reunite those families.

(51,584 posts)those who are and have ever been complicit in any way, shape or form with this admin. If the moron, his kids and every greedy GOP sociopath receives a punishment it should be medieval and exactly like you said. I don't even want the death penalty for treason...I want them to live very, very long lives that includes the suffering you mentioned AND to forfeit ALL of their assets (and their families' too) since they did all of this harm for their LOVE OF MONEY!

(51,584 posts)and the silence was deafening. They had to just keep repeating their answers about how separating children would have long term negative emotional and mental problems and they knew this BEFORE separating them. None said that they stood up to the admin and demanded that it be stopped. None of them blamed any individuals and the policies either. What a bunch of spineless losers! Good for Blumenthat for showing their faces to the public. It reminds me of the Nuremberg trails...only silence and no admission and no blame.

(3,435 posts)of over 3000 vulnerable refugee children, he poceeded to hold them hostage, warehouse them in sub-human conditions; we have seen images of children in cages, heard audio of children crying; we have since learned of sexual abuse case of a 6yrold child, as well as other abuses now surfacing regarding children in his charge.
When it comes to crimes against children, there is no perdon, forgiveness. Trump ordered the atrocity, he must be charged with crimes against over 3000 children...

As a species, of course, humanity is far away from this principle, but it stands out as a beacon of hope.

(6,344 posts)The public does not know or hear about anything being done about this. I am so glad to know there is a hearing going on. BUT, I realize it might not help at this point.
I actually was shocked when the Sen. asked who was responsible for this policy/actions. They did not answer.
We MUST take back the majority. Justice and accountability must be restored to our country.

Who here felt sick watching mothers and dads crying for their babies?
Who here thinks that the policy is deeply immoral?
Who here is willing to resign, rather than continue to implementing immoral policies that hurt innocent children?
