So how long before a 3D printer gun kills someone?

I give it 3 months, in a case that will never be solved since the guns are untraceable. I am stunned by the stupidity of this move. Why did no one in Govt block this? I hope the victim families are able to get some closure for their future mourning, but with these 'things' being impossible find, they likely won't. And that's sad.

I just learned that a judge has blocked this. Thank heavens. Seriously. Whew.

as far as I can tell. The guy is a provocateur and says it is a first amend issue and not a second amend issue. He has been working a lot and for a long time to get to this point and he is confident that this position will allow the downloaded instructions to be continue. I wanted to punch the TV when I heard him speak like a neo nazi asshole, and I am a 5'1" pacifist.

My son has a printer and has seen plans for them, but he said he would be scared to death to use it. The only way would be putting it in a vise clamp then using a tool to fire it from a safe area.

Defective guns are quite common. Guns fashioned from schematics by amateurs will result in a whole lot of hands blown off.

Regular guns are cheap and plentiful. The average person is just going to buy one the easy way.

I can't imagine any normal criminal wanting a short-range, single-shot zip gun when there is a plentiful supply of cheap semi-auto pistols that cost less than a 3D printer. And I imagine some super-duper hitman type was already quite capable of making a gun "untraceable". Just buy a new barrel and install it. They're not serialized or registered, you can buy them anonymously. That gets rid of any chance of tracing a bullet to a gun. So, probably no actual change.

Once a person demonstrated that it was feasible, others will come in and make better more robust designs. The Wright Brothers may have proven heavier than air powered flight was possible, but others quickly created far better airplane designs once the basics were shown. This happens again and again with many new technologies.

If the victim survives, medical practice is to not remove bullets as that usually results in greater damage. Also despite what is seen on TV, many bullets deform on impact and render ballistics analysis useless. And even if it is in good shape, you have to have the actual gun in hand to show it was used.
