Russia will continue to attack our country through election interference via any digital path that
it can. They had stunning success in the 2016 election cycle, they will not stop. They don’t have to stop.
In 2016 candidate trump asked Russia to help him in the election. He did so publicly, literally in front of the whole nation. Russia responded, complying with trump’s request. Their effort was rewarded with trump’s election to the presidency, a questionable success at best considering he lost the popular vote “bigly”.
Russia has paid no price for their interference. Indeed they have been handsomely rewarded with economic chaos in the U.S. and around the world due to trump’s ignorance, at best, or his acquiesce to Russia’s instructions. They have weakened NATO through trump’s claims that member states have to earn the right to protection by paying more for that protection. Even then, no guarantees if you are a tiny member country.
They will attack us again simply because they know that there are no repercussions to be had. This is classic destabilization prior to an actual physical attack, which may or may not follow. That will depend on their belief in whether or not America will respond militarily or digitally to their assault and battery of our election system and very basic structure of our national identity.
Trump, by failing or refusing to accept his intelligence agencies, all of them, assessments that Russia attacked our election system in 2016 has put our nation in extreme danger. This has been done either through trump’s ignorance, his mental illness, or his outright complicity and conspiracy with the Russian government. Their are no other explanations that fit the facts in a rational manner.
