FIGHTER
Gretchen Whitmer is a proven fighter, can mobilize people to take on our big problems, and will challenge the status quo in Lansing to get things done for all Michiganders.
As a mom, former legislator, and prosecutor, shell fight for the things that matter to people and put them first.
Check out her cheering crowd at 2017 Women's March speech
I have donated to her campaign.
She is an amazing and sensible leader.

(1,349 posts)I had the opportunity to meet her several times meeting with several different communities.
Despite the fact that she's the lawyer in this race, the group of doctors I saw her addressing thought she seemed the best versed on addiction, the problems they're seeing with their patients. (They happened to be a group of psychiatrists from India who deal with an indigent and emergent population of patients and were highly impressed.)
They really wanted to like her opponent (not Shri, ironically), Abdul. He went to high school with one of their kids, but they.don't like how he was handling questions. All that "as a doctor" stuff prefacing something that was either too vague or just plain wrong.
They thought he might benefit from actually seeing some patients and learning what they are actually dealing with. Apparently the real learning happens in residency and practice and this kid seemed smart but to finish his education first, preferably in MI so he could figure out what MI healthcare is all about and the patient population there.

(6,288 posts)its citizens do.
She's smart, involved & not a show off promoting herself by smearing other competitors.
She doesn't have to take the low path.
She has the creds to prove her worth to the State of Michigan & the people that call it their home.
Bravo..Lucky you, Michigan

(5,272 posts)distinction between some democratic voters and others? I agree with you....what is the point here? What's the end game? What's the rush? Do you even know where the balance of the party sits on these issues anyway?

Blue_true
(31,261 posts)If you are talking about that fringe party nomination, then maybe instead of having me waste more time, you should educate yourself on New York State election law.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)How does that work?
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)Like I said, educate yourself on New York State election law. You won't understand any fine points of what is going on if you don't understand how screwed up getting off a ballot there is.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)And treated the nominee very disrespectfully. You could have easily said that it's very hard to get off the ballot, I think you should think about your true position before lecturing people about what a "real democrat" is.

(1,349 posts)him the very evening of the primary? Her campaign manager had to reach out to him to apologize for the rise and false attack AOC made on Twitter when she failed to pick up the phone for scheduled calls. They said they that AOC's side kept hanging up. Perhaps someone was having phone issues and they thought they'd create some Twitter drama for fundraising.
So, not like Crowley who did concede immediatly and offered his support immediately, which is how one graciously loses. Lots of people have been both sore losers and even worse winners, but it's unfair and untrue to lay that on him.
It's a shame they didn't do the apology with as much loud fanfare as the attack. Ah, well learning happens, I guess.
Lordquinton
(7,886 posts)And peo are still attacking AOC for even daring to run, so it's easy to see why people get defensive when a democratic candidate is attacked, or disrespected.

(146,192 posts)the support of the voters in her district. I strongly support such candidates. However, in some other district, she might have lost badly. That is also true.
One district. One candidate. The lesson does not necessarily translate to other districts. This is the lesson that is not being understood by some Democrats. They seem to believe that one strategy and one message can win everywhere. They are incorrect. Every district has a different mix of voters. The candidate who reaches more of those voters will appear on the General Election ballot.
I vote for Democrats. I support those who are able to win their primaries. They reflect the desires of the district they're running in.
Ninsianna
(1,349 posts)that I have seen. I know people were really upset about some stuff she was saying about Democrats and the whole not staying around to campaign in her own district.
Most people were chalking it to her age (28 isn't exactly a child though), it is her first run so she's got lots to learn.
I can see why people are upset if she's seen to be attacking Dems, so I suppose people are defensive about her perceived attacks or disrespecting of Dems.
I know people are a bit annoyed here, wondering why she was here in MI and at the tone of the campaign. It's hard to be in last place, and understandable to attack the front runner.
But, we know the perils of saying things you cannot take back, when we need to pull together from Aug 8th. We saw how the opportunists took advantage of the raw wounds from March of 2016.
I hope everyone figures out how to come together next week. We have soooooooo much GOP mess to clean up at every level here!

(146,192 posts)They never vote for Green Party candidates, Libertarians or Republicans. They vote for the Democrat in every office in the General election. If they don't, then they're not real Democrats, but are opportunists. During primaries, they vote for the candidate they feel most aligned with. Then, they vote for the Democrat who wins in the primary. Every. Last. Time.
JCanete
(5,272 posts)get to lump Sarandon or West in here, because they aren't democrats, or if they are registered as democrats, they don't really identify as such, but Sanders voters and Cortez voters, and Sanders himself are regular democrats. Sanders endorsed Clinton at the convention...remember? Sanders voters voted FOR Clinton. So who the fuck are you people talking about?
In the context of this thread however, apparently regular democrats are the ones who will turn out to vote AGAINST the democratic socialist in the race, for reasons.
MineralMan
(146,192 posts)Most of them now regret their decision. Sanders is only a sometimes Democrat. He is a Democrat when it suits him to be one. Usually, he does not refer to himself as a Demcrat and stopped doing so right after the 2016 primary campaign. Cortez ran as a Democrat. If you do not know any Democrats who voted for Stein in 2016, I'd be surprised. So that's "who the fuck" I'm talking about, and you know it.
I am answering this time, despite your obscene characterizations. I will not do so again. I prefer a more rational, reasoned use of language on DU. It's my choice whether to respond or not.
JCanete
(5,272 posts)Who cares beyond that how he generally identifies? So you want to talk about the small percentage of Sanders supporters who didn't vote for Clinton, whereas, clearly the intent of the post you are explaining for me was not to suggest that anybody who would vote for a democratic socialist in the primary would be a regular democrat. No, a regular democrat would come out and make sure his opponent won in the primary.
Edit: By the way, I apologize for letting my exasperation get the better of me. I'll try to tone down my language.

Whitmer is also correct on the issue too and there is a really good interview with her here http://komornlaw.com/gretchen-whitmer-stands-with-michigans-medical-marijuana-community/
In it she says;
W: It definitely needs to be regulated and we need to decriminalize (the possession) of smaller amounts. We should regulate it, make sure its safe, and maybe even tax it. Lets talk about it (regulation/decriminalization/legalization) for real, make it transparent, and let the voters tell us what they want. We should (honor the will of the people).
We have 2 really great Democrats running in MI! We can't go wrong here with who wins! This will be an exciting race to watch come election night to watch the returns come in.

(58,785 posts)the Democratic Party will be fielding against the Republican, as well as Mr. El-Sayed of course. Surely they won't be badmouthing our Democratic warrior at this critical time? That would be to assist the Republicans and the Russians, AND, certainly not least, to once again risk sabotaging their own professed progressive goals.

(15,300 posts)but claims she didn't go there to listen to them. But he doesn't say what she did instead. Did she do a juggling act? Teach a cooking class? Recite the Gettysburg Address? Sorry, but I have a hard time believing she didn't go there for the same reasons every politician goes to a community center. He comes across as so mean and petty, and he doesn't even do that well.

(1,331 posts)I cant stand Nina Turner.
It irritates me when outside politicians come to s state they dont know and try to influence elections.
El-Sayed may be a great guy, but as a lifelong Michigander, Im telling you, you get out of the Detroit, Dearborn, Ann Arbor area and not many people are going to vote for him. Maybe as a Lt. Gov with Gretchen Whitmer, but there are too many small towns ( witness Kalkaska) who are not going to vote for a Muslim. Of course, for some unknown reason, a lot of these small towns and rural areas vote republican. I even saw 2 confederate flags out around the Lake Ann Kingsley area up north. A confederate flag. In Michigan. These are the kind of people who probably dont even know Michigan fought with the Union. And you think theyre going to vote for a Muslim? Please.
MineralMan
(146,192 posts)And I'm serious about that. In a three-way race, it could limit his vote support to a smaller group of voters, with others moving on to one of the other two candidates.
Nina Turner doesn't have a good history of actually helping candidates with her support.
