https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/01/us/politics/trump-mueller-investigation-interview.htmlWASHINGTON President Trump pushed his lawyers in recent days to try once again to reach an agreement with the special counsels office about him sitting for an interview, flouting their advice that he should not answer investigators questions, three people briefed on the matter said on Wednesday.
Mr. Trump has told advisers he is eager to meet with investigators to clear himself of wrongdoing, the people said. In effect, he believes he can convince the investigators for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, of his belief that their own inquiry is a witch hunt.
Mr. Mueller, whose team has negotiated the parameters of an interview with Mr. Trumps lawyers for eight months, sent his latest proposal in a letter Tuesday night, the three people said. Investigators stood firm on the scope of and topics for their questions for Mr. Trump: possible coordination between his associates and Russias election interference and whether he tried to obstruct the investigation.
They did shift slightly on format, agreeing to accept some written answers, including matters in which they want to preserve the ability to have Mr. Trump answer follow-ups in person. In doing so, they firmed up a previously expressed willingness to allow certain answers in writing.

(5,465 posts)This article sounds like Trump spin and I don't buy it. He is afraid of Mueller and knows he can't bullshit his way through the questioning when there are legal repercussions. He hasn't given a real solo press conference either in over 500 days since he does not want to be pinned down with serious questions.
If he really wanted to clear the air and assert his innocence with Mueller team, he would have done so a long time ago since he usually goes ahead to impulsively do everything else he wants to without listening to his advisors.

(11,841 posts)I really think that he believes that he could bully his way thru an interview.

AND, as you say. Trump really is a bundle of narcissistic dysfunctions.

(7,142 posts)His talk of wanting to meet face to face with Mueller is smoke and mirrors to save face, to make him look less cowardly.
Trump never ever wanted to sit down with Mueller, hell he is afraid to do a real press conference as you point out. He will use the excuse that his lawyers wouldn't let him sit down.
Trump made his living under the protection of the Cosa Nostra and then the Russian mob. He could operate above the law. He is now cornered in a place he has never been before, being held accountable with no one to fix his problems. Donald Trump is scared shitless. It is obvious that Trump never wanted to sit down with Mueller, the right wing M$M keeps pretending that he does. This is just the 1st quarter of the game, the longer the game goes on, the worse it is going to get for Trump. I don't rule out a mental breakdown.
