There's a Long way to go before the head is cut off this monster. The NRA is like Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy, you just can't kill it.

They took a horrible experience and have been working hard to change the system. We can all learn from the tenacity of these young people. Registering 18 year old people and encouraging them to vote has been a massive effort that they have implemented with extreme dedication. Thank you Parkland survivors! You give us all hope.

We have a powerful potential in out youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.

I wonder if this is a fund raising ruse--play the victim to incite their members to kick in more money. They are really skilled at knowing how to wring $$$ out of their followers. I would love it if it is really true.

(I am a huge fan of the Parkland activists and glad to know that they are still out there kicking butt. My niece's daughter was a student there and in the next building over when the shooting took place. She's about to start college and is still having some issues over the incident.)

Turning your trauma into wisdom works. Easier said than done. Especially for someone so young.

She is a pretty sharp and tough young woman and I am hoping that once she gets going in school (Cornell!!) she will turn her mind to that vs dwelling on the shooting. I know it will always be part of her experience, but as you say, maybe she can use it in a beneficial way going forward.

For Hogg it is grabbing the bull by the horns and advocating for sensible gun laws. For your niece it is diving into something new. I tried the latter again and again and it was not to be.

hypocrisy and venality. Democratic politicians in red states no longer have to support the NRA as long as they support some gun rights. These young people have played an important part in the debunking and shaming of the NRA.
