(6,402 posts)One of the things we used to get during election year, including midterms, was a General Discussion: Election forum that would allow us to talk about the various races, primaries, and all the candidates.
But the admin has largely disappeared and this place is on autopilot, slowly drifting toward its next accident.

(57,259 posts)reasoning: there's really no partisan fight in these primaries on an off-year election and by and largely the primaries for Nov are over.
For the heck of it I counted the articles on the home page - Trump is only in a third of it which seems about right because he does affect the news - Russia, the election, NATO, EU, trade, NK, Iran, the fact he's pretty certain to be impeached, his family may well be arrested, his associates are being arrested and are being sent to jail ... and on and on and on. He won't hold news conferences, twitter is how he communicates.
How do you want to find out about his excesses: on twitter before or in the press after?

(24,259 posts)While discussions about Trump are numerous, there are plenty more topics to choose from if you explore the forum and it's groups, etc more (I use the "Latest Threads" tab personally). Of course, much as you did this one, you could also start your own threads discussing what you'd like to.

(7,286 posts)In another thread I tried to point out that it's the people who voted for Trump that are the real problem.
No dice, it's all on him I was told
We are being destroyed from within. Trump can lie and we can become fixated on him and his lies, but some 35% of our country believes his lies

So...addressing issues of AA and POC on a Democratic board is just "unhinged screeching?" That people address some white male cops shooting unarmed black men/boys in the back is "unhinged screeching"? We have a WHITE bigoted/ racist as potus that calls Mexicans drug dealers, rapists and murderers and when we address that it is "unhinged screeching"? Wow, just wow.

(36,898 posts)DAY 1 (SAT) - A GIFT FROM MSNBC
On Friday night, we were up until about 3:00am getting ready for the website's big Inaugural Day Launch. We were hoping to be in bed by midnight, but our intern a young radical from one of the local community colleges spilled paint all over our banner at around 11:30, and we had to start from scratch. EarlG thought the intern was trying to sniff the stuff, and I wouldn't be surprised if it were true (he kept mumbling something about how "acrylic lasts longer than this latex crap", but we weren't clear on the context). The rest of us are too old for that sort of thing, but we'll keep him around because he is the only one here that knows anything about programming perl. (Fortunately, he got the "Nuclear Button" script working by 10:00pm, before the can of paint arrived.)
On Saturday, we met at our makeshift "office" in Northwest DC sometime around 11:00am. We were supposed to meet at 9:30, but the intern overslept. He showed up with his own homemade "George W. Ass" sign, but we wouldn't let him bring it to the protests Newshound thought it was "off message."
We got down to Pennsylvania avenue around noon, and were fortunate to claim a prime location right in front of the press bleachers. Protesters were confined to a few "designated protest areas," and it seemed strange to me that one of those spots would be right in front of the media. I guess the communications geniuses in the Bush camp didn't think of everything. The other protesters seemed to be a mishmash of left-wing types: Some dancing polar bears to protest oil drilling in ANWR; Some free-Mumia folks; Anti-death penalty activists; A pretty large contingent of Seattle-style anti-globalization college kids; and even a guy on stilts to protest, well, I don't know what he was protesting. Like us, lots of folks were protesting how Bush stole the election, but there were far fewer of us than I expected. A sizable chunk of the protesters I spoke with voted for Nader. I thought, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be out here freezing my ass off in the rain. But I digress.

(17,331 posts)I was thinking about this thread earlier and came back to post exactly this. I know we're still quite a ways from 2020, but when I read the threads about who will lead the Dems and I see all the dissension (some of it pretty bitter), it is discouraging. Hopefully all that gets put behind us over the coming months, especially after big gains in November. But Trump is the one thing (I won't say "person" that brings us together. We can all firmly agree that Dolt 45 is a menace!

(6,265 posts)DU has become a place to blow off steam, to re-tweet stuff, to k&r or rec posts, and generally to keep the momentum and the anger going.
As much as I'm beyond pissed off at the current so-called "administration" of this country and all the damage being caused by it, I actually feel better when I skip DU for a couple of days. The anger is still there, but I don't spend (too much) time focused on it. I can take the blinders off and see what else is around me.
As I asked in a post a day or two ago, are we all just singing to the choir? We know we're pissed and disgusted, but what good does it do to sing to each other? Geez, if I get depressed, the last thing I want to do is put on a depressing song.
We need to put that perfectly good energy into getting out there and doing something.

(3,145 posts)That being said some folks on here DO have Trump on the brain. They obsess on his every utterance, every tweet, the way he shakes hands, his and Melania's body language, etc.
These are the same ones that post bizarre conspiracy theories about Trump: he's going to cancel elections, he's going to use some big event to be installed as dictator. Pretty much the same thing many Dems said about W.
