But I guess America needs to hear the silenced voices of Republicans, who can't get a word in edgewise in today's political climate. The next time you see, say, Van Jones interview William Barber will be first time you'd ever see something like that.

I like listening to him. Schmidt, Wallace, Richard Painter and Rick Wilson are Republicans who have come out vocally against trump and his cabal.

Good for them as we need as many sensible Republicans or ex-Republicans to help get back at least the House and eventually get rid of trump.

the importance of governance and institutional norms. Besides if Rachael wants Nicole to host who am I to disagree?

Those aspects are enough to allow me to overlook the many areas I don't agree with her and enjoy her show.

Also, like Rachael she's a local gal. She grew up in Orinda, just over the hills from where I grew up in Oakland. Also she's a CAL grad with in my book is point above Stanford. Go Bears!

I don't know about some of the others, but Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt both worked for John McCain's presidential campaign and ended up not voting for him -- the deal breaker was Sarah Palin.

But what tore it completely for them was Donald Trump. Watching the two of them during the RNC, sitting in the dark of the stadium after Trump's apocalyptic speech, was -- really moving. Those two are patriots -- Country over Party, and in Steve Schmidt's case, a very articulate understanding of and reverence for the US Constitution.

My feelings about them since then have been: they are small-c conservatives. We could talk, and disagree on details while agreeing on the big picture.

One more thing: Nicolle has a nice smile, but she is angry. Really, really angry. Pick a topic, any topic -- say, family separation and the caging of small children -- and by now she is having some difficulty containing herself.

She comes on at 1:00 California time, adjust for your time zone. Recommended.

The race-baiting goes back to Nixon's Southern Strategy of dog-whistling about race to get the votes of southern whites that then allowed the GOP to implement their business-friendly and taxophobic policies.

50+ years of dog-whistling finally brought the rabid dog (Trump) to the door. Anyone who wants to be an ex-Republican needs to admit their acceptance and complicity in this strategy.
