Before 2016 it would have been UNIMAGINABLE that Nicole Wallace would/could be her fill in host.
My head hurts sometimes.

(82,849 posts)But I guess America needs to hear the silenced voices of Republicans, who can't get a word in edgewise in today's political climate. The next time you see, say, Van Jones interview William Barber will be first time you'd ever see something like that.

I'll have to check it out.
I'm more of a weekday CNN watcher. Which weekday shows is he a frequent guest on? I feel like I haven't seen him much. He was great during the 2016 campaigns.

(25,485 posts)and than I can just scan through and FF through the boring bits...I'm not a huge fan of Van Jones, I met him once, and he gave me all kinds of crap about my last name.. I was like Dude, you really going there today?

(31,261 posts)I don't expect Nicole to ever agree totally with us, but if she convince a few republicans to vote Dem in close races, she would have done a great service to the country, same with Steve.

(22,756 posts)Nicole Wallace was an early frequent guest on Rachel's show... I think it would have been imaginable....
Nicole Wallace is a decent show host and has the unique perspective (along with Steve Schmidt) of having managed a presidential campaign

(53,778 posts)I like listening to him. Schmidt, Wallace, Richard Painter and Rick Wilson are Republicans who have come out vocally against trump and his cabal.
Good for them as we need as many sensible Republicans or ex-Republicans to help get back at least the House and eventually get rid of trump.

(26,060 posts)I will NEVER forgive him for that ad that morphed Max Cleland into bin laden. It was so over the top, so fucking ugly (and something he has zero remorse for), I'll never stop thinking about it every time I see his putrid face.

(130,908 posts)Nicole Wallace is very good, smart, knowledgeable and does a good interview.
Unlike others, it appears, I am HAPPY to see those who formerly were repugs come over to be rational, I applaud them, and I think we ALL should; if we don't, what the heck are we here for?

She is smart, well-prepared and no nonsense. She's a terrific interviewer and her follow-up questions are often pointed.

Rachel needs to do another show on the Kochs, ALEC, and their intent to rewrite the Constitution. Invite that author named McClean or whatever.

the importance of governance and institutional norms. Besides if Rachael wants Nicole to host who am I to disagree?
Those aspects are enough to allow me to overlook the many areas I don't agree with her and enjoy her show.
Also, like Rachael she's a local gal. She grew up in Orinda, just over the hills from where I grew up in Oakland. Also she's a CAL grad with in my book is point above Stanford. Go Bears!

(90,686 posts)I don't know about some of the others, but Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt both worked for John McCain's presidential campaign and ended up not voting for him -- the deal breaker was Sarah Palin.
But what tore it completely for them was Donald Trump. Watching the two of them during the RNC, sitting in the dark of the stadium after Trump's apocalyptic speech, was -- really moving. Those two are patriots -- Country over Party, and in Steve Schmidt's case, a very articulate understanding of and reverence for the US Constitution.
My feelings about them since then have been: they are small-c conservatives. We could talk, and disagree on details while agreeing on the big picture.
One more thing: Nicolle has a nice smile, but she is angry. Really, really angry. Pick a topic, any topic -- say, family separation and the caging of small children -- and by now she is having some difficulty containing herself.
She comes on at 1:00 California time, adjust for your time zone. Recommended.

(10,721 posts)...the Republican Party was just fine before Trump. They can't accept that Trump is the almost inevitable product of Republican rhetoric and policy over the last 50 years.

(31,388 posts)and he's the one who started all this crap--besides Nixon--but they mostly stay away from idolizing him.
I expect to see the Repub anti-Trumpers turn right around and support another Repub once Trump is gone. I don't trust them one bit.
DeminPennswoods
(15,286 posts)The race-baiting goes back to Nixon's Southern Strategy of dog-whistling about race to get the votes of southern whites that then allowed the GOP to implement their business-friendly and taxophobic policies.
50+ years of dog-whistling finally brought the rabid dog (Trump) to the door. Anyone who wants to be an ex-Republican needs to admit their acceptance and complicity in this strategy.
