Trump Voter Apologizes to the Nation on CNN: 'It Was The Biggest Mistake I Ever Made'

by Amy Russo | Aug 7th, 2018, 9:55 am

While a chunk of President Donald Trump‘s base has stuck by him through ongoing scandals from questionable ties with Russia to the revelation of hush-money payouts to a porn star, some are having voter’s remorse.

Regretful ex-Trumpster Jeremy Montanez was felt so strongly about the matter that he apologized to the entire country on CNN.

“I want to apologize to the nation for my vote for him,” Montanez said Tuesday during a panel discussion New Day. “It was the wrong thing to do. It was the biggest mistake I ever made.”

Montanez also called the president a racist, pointing to his lack of attention to Puerto Rico’s devastation by Hurricane Maria as an example.

“He said they want to just cry–they needed help,” Montanez said. “Just because they’re not white skinned he doesn’t want to go down there and help them out?”

Tue Aug 7, 2018, 01:50 PM
Aug 2018

He’s a MUCH better Christian than I am - probably one of many reasons why I married him. His heart is big and gentle and forgiving. He has some of the same “they should eat shit and die” instincts but he consistently refuses to give them much air.

As for me, I struggle with that much harder. I find it so much harder to forgive and embrace. I want to punish. I want there to be severe consequences for those folks who do colossally stupid and ill-advised and repeatedly proven wrong things like voting republi-CON and trusting trump. I want them to pay, and pay dearly, for the choices they willingly and deliberately made. I wouldn’t even mind working to take their right to vote away - because isn’t that what a responsible parent does when the kids won’t play nicely with their toys? You take their toys AWAY! And I have to fight this urge every minute of every day. Besides, violating voting rights is anathema to my higher self.

But I can’t help it. I go there first. And then my better angels take over and yank me off that path. Or my husband talks about it and I realize I should be ashamed of myself for my knee jerk reaction to go there first. I went to Catholic school, which celebrates that Guy who advocated turning the other cheek and even forgave those who “know not what they do” WHILE suffering to His own death from what they didn’t know they were doing. I tell you, it’s a CONSTANT battle. Daily. Hourly. Minute-by-minute.

I WANT to give them shit. I WANT them to get shit, and lots of it, to teach them a lesson and punish them for doing wrong. But my better angels (what few there are) constantly tell me that’s just NOT the way. Thank God I had the good sense to marry one of them!

I’ve posted here many times about trying to do it like a responsible parent should do: reward and reinforce GOOD behavior. And DO NOT reward or reinforce bad behavior. But like a good parent is supposed to do, that does NOT-NOT-NOT mean you hit or spank or deny care or food or protection - as “punishment” of some sort. And I believe that. Tried hard to raise our kids by that morality code.

And it’s a war within me that probably won’t stop til I breathe my last. Because I try to remind myself not to give into it. Forgiveness is what’s supposed to happen. Love over hate. And all those good things. And they’re damn hard to make good on.

I've had some really bad days where the thoughts I have disgust me. I know I'm wrong but they just keep coming. The anger boils over and I can't help but think about how some of the middle eastern dictators met their end and want the same thing here. Dragged into the streets.......

Then I remember, we as a country will get through this and come out better on the other side. We will survive this. We as a country are dragging out all our demons into the light where fresh air and sunlight can sanitize it. Those of us who oppose the current times need to hang strong and not forget our convictions. Love & Light.

After these dark days no one can say this country isn't racist, homophobic, xenophobic et al. We see it day in and day out, the hatred pouring over, people showing their ass by calling police, verbal assault & abuse of our countrymen, on and on and on. Now we can fight it head on, instead of the soft shoeing it. (you're not a racist, homophobe, xenophobe but.....)

We need to hang on. Not let that hatred burn into us. Love & Light.

Stay airy my friend

.... I keep using the word stupidity which in many cases is a fitting description of trump voters. What pisses me off the most is the fact that the majority of these people are not stupid. They are people who have embraced the use of willful ignorance for an excuse to openly express their true selves which includes racism, misogyny, homophobia, and a host of other despicable behaviors. trump and maga are simply fronts to legitimize those behaviors. I am not influenced by any religion, but I will say that those who are and follow the teachings as they were meant to be I say good for them if it makes them a better person. For those who use religion as a crutch and an excuse to spew hatred for those who do not conform to their idea of what a Christian is can just go to hell.

Tue Aug 7, 2018, 11:52 AM

admit their vote was a mistake. It is hard enough to admit when you are wrong but on a national (or international) platform is even harder. The tRumpers have not been willing to budge an inch on tRump until recently because to admit they regret their vote was a certain invitation to be savaged. So even if they are thinking it, admitting it out loud is another matter.

We need those who have come out of their trance to be heard. They ARE out there and we need to resist the urge to put them through the wringer even though they might deserve a good tongue lashing just for being stupid and thoughtless with their vote. As has been said many times, every vote matters. And elections have consequences. But if these people are voluntarily coming out of hiding, we need to help them come forward. Many already know they made a bad mistake and can’t undo what they did.

If we want more people to withhold their vote for tRump (and people in his mold), let’s encourage the regretters to come forward without beating them to a pulp. (No matter how much we want to smack ‘em!) We might be able to learn more about why people fell under his spell and figure out how to counter his tactics before an election takes place.

There needs to be new laws in place to prevent that from happening, starting with a form of the Fairness Doctrine to reduce propaganda, and repealing Citizens United to reduce money in politics.

So, now what?

He goes about his life, having expressed his remorse and does what?

Because saying "I'm sorry" isn't a cure-all.

Never has been. Never will be.

And we're not simply talking about a vote - we're talking about supporting each and every destructive word or action by Trump. That's what that vote he's so sorry about means.

Don't tell me you're sorry.

Work to undo the damage you caused with that vote.
