They had so many volunteers signing up to help that they went through their entire database by 10am this morning and have sent over 140,000 texts on behalf of O'Connor. In a seat the republicans have won by over 35 points each of the last two elections, this has to be a very good sign.
From the email I received:
Hi Jeff,
Thanks so much for volunteering to send texts to get out the vote for Danny O'Connor.
We had an unprecedented number of volunteers sending texts starting at 8:00am this morning and as of 9:55am have officially completed our entire list of voters to text!
I apologize if you were unable to send texts today or over the weekend there were thousands of volunteers interested in texting for this race, but only so many voters for us to text.
Rest assured you will get a chance to text when we are texting for dozens of candidates in the midterms. We will also have worked out most of the bugs by then, so our texting operation will flow much more smoothly.
So what's next? We'll keep you updated on the election results as they come in. Win or lose we should all feel incredibly good about what we accomplished. We sent over 140,000 texts sent in just 5 days for Danny O'Connor!

(8,275 posts)and just spoke 2 days ago I Spoke to two people who were thinking about voting Green today.
I Carefully laid out my case that voting Green today will not help the people who need health care and jobs. I respected their choice and refrained from telling them they were nuts...which was very difficult for me....but in the end my quiet careful suggestions took root and they both pledged to vote O'Conner and at now worried about Kavanaugh. Whew!,
just a few votes can make a difference.

(2,895 posts)How ANY voter (who hasn't been in a coma for the past year and a half) could even consider tossing away such a precious vote is so... nuts (as you said, even if not to them)... and really, well BEYOND nuts. I mean, if they were previously under the delusion that voting for a Democrat is the same as voting for a Republican, that myth has been dramatically dispelled multiple times a day every day since that thing took office. Meanwhile, his sycophants in the congressional majority have completely abandoned oversight in their zeal to overturn all the progress that had seemed so firmly established. How much clearer could it be?!!
Again, thank you!

(2,442 posts)Queue up the numbers and simply schedule a mass text at 7:00 AM and another later in the day? The volunteers could be helping with personal calls or other tasks?

(994 posts)Several texts today - and in previous days. Plus phone messages.
Almost overkill. Such a fine line between encouraging people to vote and annoying them.
And to make myself perfectly clear - I am not annoyed - I just delete the messages after reading to keep my system from getting filled. I, too, am pleased about the enthusiasm.
I will be voting for Danny O'Connor later today. I always vote. Always.
So hoping O12 turns blue tonight.

(56,828 posts)I wonder how many actual voters got texted out of the 140,000 texts? 14,000? 28,000? 7,000?
However, if this is close, every single vote will count

(10,437 posts)Is a largely red district...the may primary, there were only 43,000 democratic votes cast and 67,000 republican votes. This is a monumental uphill battle to even have this election to be within 10%....you never know as the dislike of trump is evident in Ohio now too

Polling has it a dead heat.
national Republicans are already criticizing their candidate for being unlikable and for not running a good campaign. Sounds like their internal polling agrees (or is worse) than the public polling if they're making excuses for him. There were similar comments from GOP leaders leading up to election day with Conor Lamb earlier this year as well.
