(56,828 posts)O'Connor will be the incumbent if he wins, and if the GOPer loses this time out, the local Neo Nazi, sorry Republican, party will need to decide if they run the same loser again, or bring in somebody new to run a very short race.

(32,975 posts)They're stuck with Balderson. Politico.com Balderson wins Ohio 12 GOP primary

Snip..."State Sen. Troy Balderson won the Republican primaries in the special and regular elections in former Rep. Pat Tiberis old district.
Balderson had 29.2 percent of the vote to 28.2 percent for Melanie Leneghan when the Associated Press called the race with 100 percent of precincts reporting. Balderson won the regular primary by a similar margin over Leneghan."
Bit more at web article.

(128,986 posts)It's the same issue with all of the special elections this year. With the one here in PA featuring Conor Lamb (elected in March 2018), he will have to run again in November in a newly re-drawn district to boot (redrawn to bust the GOP gerrymandering) but it helps to be an incumbent from some district!

(6,377 posts)There's a tweet higher up in the thread where a voter (presumably in Franklin County) said that the lines were longer than he saw in the presidential race.

(29,661 posts)High voter turnout can go either way........and with the orange blob saying "the Democrats will raise your taxes", blah, blah, blah, might just be enough to get the repubs out as well. Just keeping positive vibes and fingers crossed that the outcome will make us all very happy.
