Rosie O'Donnell Blasts Mainstream Media for "Giving" Trump Presidential Win

Rosie O’Donnell may be notorious for having a longtime feud with President Donald Trump, but the comedian blamed the mainstream media for “giving” Trump his presidency while making a Monday-night appearance on MSNBC.

Speaking to The Beat With Ari Melber about the White House protest she is jumpstarting with Broadway stars, O’Donnell went on a tirade against the media for being too “slow in coming around” to calling Trump a “liar.”

“The reason he’s not so panicked about Russia is because he knows that they’re going to try again exactly what they did in 2016,” O’Donnell said. “Although the mainstream media won’t say it yet. They actually gave him the election. I believe that firmly and I think a lot of people do.”

Though speaking to MSNBC, the comedian did not shy away from critiquing the network for being one of the outlets that refused to be sufficiently critical of Trump. “It took you guys a long time to call him a liar, and the man’s been lying every single day since he’s been in office,” she argued.

I interpreted her statement to mean that Russia gave Trump the election, and the mainstream media won't say it yet. If you watch the video, that's really what she's saying. Although she does have plenty of (apt) criticism for the media as well.

4. Trump understands what attracts the media's attention.

Controversy and scandal. That stuff sells ads and keeps eyeballs on the TV and on the page, and ears listening to the radio. Trump knows the more controversy and outrage he generates, the more attention he'll get. The media, regardless of ownership bias, can't help itself. Trump is a master at sensationalism. The more controversy Trump stirs up, the less time the media has to spend on any one thing. But all of it keeps his name out there and the attention focused solely on him.

I wish the media would do a better job calling Trump out for his bullshit. They keep playing footsie with him, because the more they prolong it, the more ads they sell. If someone pulled a Murrow and galvanized the nation against Trump as a liar and a cheat, the sensational gravy train would slow down, and the media can't stand that.
