North Carolina GOP Candidate Preached Extensively on Wives Submitting to Husbands

Democrats were already targeting North Carolina’s 9th District before incumbent Rep. Robert Pittenger lost his Republican primary in May. And they’re hoping that past comments from the former Baptist minister who defeated him improves their chances of flipping the seat this fall.

Mark Harris on multiple occasions — as a preacher and political candidate — has said that women should submit fully to their husbands and that he believed homosexuality is a choice. Before venturing into politics, he was a pastor at First Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Harris said in a Friday interview with Roll Call that a wife submitting to her husband does not mean that they are not equal. He said he regularly mentions that in counseling sessions and when he presides at weddings.

and how grateful he was for the opportunity to "love her, hold her, lead her..."

Lead her??? Seriously???
If I tried to "lead" my wife she'd lead me upside my head.

They baptized us boys in the knowledge that women are there to support us and we are the special ones. They pretended it didn't mean women weren't equal but we all knew - just try to be a wife and have an independent thought. You got some home correction coming your way.

I had two brothers who were Southern Baptist ministers.
They believed the woman is subservient to the man.

shouldn't men make better decisions overall than women? If anything, men are more likely to make stupid decisions than women. Men are more likely to drink too much and too often. Also, I noticed on AFV that there are more stupid activities by men than women.

Ephesians 5:22-24:

"22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything."

I would argue that anyone who claims the Bible as the supreme moral authority should own this. Some do, of course, like this clown in North Carolina. Voters should be able to choose based on whether the candidate advocates for a theocracy, or actually intends to support the Constitution, as stated in the oath.

Seems that millions would go for the theocracy; I hope we don't go there.
