A Voter In The Ohio Special Election Delivered The Message That Terrifies Republicans

A Voter In The Ohio Special Election Delivered The Message That Terrifies Republicans

NBC News asked a voter who labeled himself a conservative why he voted the way he did the Ohio House special election. He answered that if Republicans weren’t going to put a brake on Trump, voters would vote for Democrats who would.

Video @ link:

The election between state Sen. Troy Balderson (R) and Franklin County recorder Dan O’Connor (D) is closer than anyone thought it would be in a district that has a lean of Republican (+7) and has gone red in every election but one since 1939.

The reason why this election is so close came down to one simple message that a white conservative Democratic told MSNBC, “This is really more about sending a message, you know. I mean, the Republicans have to wake up. If they are not going to be a brake on this guy, then we vote for the other side. I think a lot of people are really scared.”

White Working Class Voters Are Swinging Away From Trump

The race in Ohio-12 is eerie similar to the special election in Pennsylvania-18 that Democrat Conor Lamb won. Republicans are dumping unheard of sums of cash into a white working class district that Trump won by double digits less than two years earlier. The Democrat in the race is a fresh face who is focused on local issues and the concerns of voters. The Republican is an uninspiring candidate who is running as Donald Trump’s mini-me, who some Republicans complain did not raise enough money or put in much face to face time with voters as he should have.

Donald Trump won this district by 11 points. Trump and Pence both campaigned for the Republican candidate, but the race is a dead heat. The Ohio voter had it right. Voters know that there is something not right with Trump, and they want a check put on him. Danny O’Connor ran a local based campaign by the issue of checking Trump is at the front of the minds of many voters as they head to the polls.

the congress has abdicated their constitutional role.
he has been allowed to unilaterally set new taxes (tariffs), break treaties, and used executive orders to subvert laws, instead of faithfully enforce them.

Traitor Tot endorsed John James, but Sandy Pensler has been kissing his ass so hard in his tv ads that it's embarrassing. He said that he will "proudly follow Trump's bold agenda to Ban Sanctuary Cities, Stop Illegal Immigration, Cut Taxes [again?] to Bring Back Jobs, and Eliminate Affirmative Action."

Yikes! I'm still not sure why Traitor Tot endorsed James. Maybe he didn't see a picture of him.

They couldn't find a Repub who voted against the Repub candidate? That's odd. And maybe not a good sign. Hopefully the Repubs stayed at home, if they didn't want to vote for the Democrat.

They just registered as Democrats way back and never changed it. They became Republicans over the years, most notably after civil rights and the voting rights act, and gay rights, etc. But they are Repubs through and through, and often even alt-right.

That's better, IMO. If you vote in one primary, you can't vote in the other, is how TX handles that.

Although the White House has avoided addressing climate change, it made a rare acknowledgement that its proposal to weaken vehicle fuel efficiency standards would contribute to a warmer planet. Its prediction for what the atmosphere will look like in 2100 startled climate scientists — a carbon dioxide concentration of 789.76 parts per million.

... The concentration of atmospheric CO2 has risen more than 35 percent since before the Industrial Revolution, when it was estimated to be 280 ppm, according to Scripps. When scientists first started recording CO2 about 60 years ago, it was 320 ppm. This year, that number hit 410.31, a record high in modern history and a sharp increase since 2013, when CO2 levels surpassed 400 ppm for the first time, according to Scripps.

... The number used by the Trump administration assumes that fossil fuel consumption will continue to rise every year, said Ralph Keeling, head of the CO2 program at the University of California, San Diego's Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It does not account for competition from renewable energy, emissions reduction policies or the assumption that the market can support that rate of growth, he said. It also doesn't account for a significant global effort to curb emissions, such as the Paris climate agreement.

My math says an increase from 280 to 410.31 is 46.5%, not 35%. We're just like 3 or so years away from 420 ppm, which is the 50% increase point. (Remember 350.org? )

As for what this all has to do with the topic of this thread:

This is insane - we'd be back to the climate of like 45 million years ago (no ice anywhere).

We need a check on the people working for Trump too.
