Paul Manaforts former accountant was fired from a Virginia firm after she told the court she was aware that Manaforts tax returns contained false information.
Cindy Laporta testified Friday in the governments case against the former Trump campaign chairman, saying she went along with the scam because she was worried Manafort and his right-hand-man Rick Gates would sue. Laporta was given immunity from prosecution for her testimony.
Virginia-based Kositzka, Wicks & Co. said in a statement Tuesday it was shocked by Ms. Laportas testimony, which clearly represents that she failed to meet the firms high standards for professional and ethical conduct in her work for Mr. Manafort. In a follow-up email, the company said: She is no longer working here.

(2,113 posts)Im sure, But they liked their " 5X bigger check than hers" more than saying something. Until she blew it up in their
face. That pesky lil thing called honesty.

(4,066 posts)Accountants bend the rules up to the breaking point for good clients who pay them tons of money. It is done all the time. Why do you think we had the Enron fiasco, the crash of 2008. What she did is not all that unusual.
The firm only fired her because they feared too much bad publicity. Not for her ethics.

(7,629 posts)Maybe they really don't condone that behavior. However. I have a feeling that cooking the books for wealthy clients is probably not unheard of. It's a very fine line between creative accounting to lower someone's taxes and outright fraud.

I wish her no ill will - got plenty of that for Manafort etc etc etc etc
Also, I do wonder what the other 4 witnesses who also have immunity are going to tell us...!!?!???? Oh I do, I surely do!!!!!

(5,461 posts)Her FIRM shouldn't get any more clients.
If she told the truth, as in she was forced to act illegally, she should be held blameless. She must testify against the criminals in the Repuke party that are trying to destroy America.
Her actions should provide another nail in the coffin of the Repuke Treasonous Party.

even if they have immunity will now be willing to testify.
Kind of puts a chill on witnesses in other trials as well. Doesn't it?

(37,648 posts)She committed fraudulent acts, or participated in them, or at the least knew about them (which may make her a participant). She can't work as an accountant at an ethical company, any more. I'm sure she must have known this, which is why she apparently didn't warn the firm beforehand about what her testimony would be.
This isn't a big consideration for political operatives. Besides, it's either this or maybe go to prison and have a felony on your record. I don't see this as disturbing the witness lineup. They're in trouble to begin with, and felt they had no choice, for self-preservation.
